Murder Conviction in Fatal 2012 Shooting

BOSTON, Jan. 28, 2016—A Dorchester man faces a life term tomorrow when he is sentenced for shooting 25-year-old Mariano Malave to death during a marijuana sale in Jamaica Plain, Suffolk County District Attorney Daniel F. Conley said.

A Suffolk Superior Court jury convicted CHARLES REDDICKS (D.O.B. 4/20/94) of second-degree murder and unlawful possession of a firearm today after more than a week of testimony and about two days of deliberations. Jurors acquitted Reddicks of an additional charge of armed robbery.

Assistant District Attorney Gregory Henning of the DA’s Senior Trial Unit introduced witness statements, phone records, and video evidence proving that Reddicks negotiated the purchase of a large quantity of marijuana from Malave throughout the day on April 27, 2012. The two met at a Hyde Park Avenue residence, where, the evidence showed, Reddicks shot Malave repeatedly, killing him.

Reddicks will be sentenced tomorrow at 9:00 a.m. in courtroom 907 of Suffolk Superior Court.
