Newton Man Charged as Green Line Groper

A Newton man was charged today with groping a Boston woman on an MBTA trolley last week, Suffolk County District Attorney Daniel F. Conley said.

JACOB SHIN (D.O.B. 1/8/75) was arraigned this afternoon on a single count of indecent assault and battery. Assistant District Attorney Lawrence Bates recommended that he be held on $7,000 cash bail; Judge Tracy-Lee Lyons set bail at $5,000 and further ordered Shin to stay off the MBTA and wear a GPS monitoring device if he posts bail.

Shin allegedly placed his hand on the 24-year-old victim’s inner thigh as they travelled outbound on the D Line approaching Hynes Station at about 5:45 Thursday evening.

“Watch your hands,” the victim said, prompting Shin to leave the train and the station.

MBTA Transit Police spoke with the victim later the same evening and, after taking a description and reviewing surveillance images, were able to identify Shin. They arrested Shin at his residence Friday.

Shin was represented today by attorney James Igoe. He will return to court on March 9.
