NO BAIL FOR 16-YEAR-OLD’S ALLEGED KILLER

A Dorchester man was held without bail today following his arraignment for allegedly shooting 16-year-old Torey Evans to death on Dorchester Avenue earlier this year, Suffolk County District Attorney Daniel F. Conley announced.

Granting a request by Assistant District Attorney David Fredette of Conley’s Homicide Unit, Dorchester District Court Judge Rosalind Miller ordered MARQUES KERSEY (D.O.B. 2/10/90) held without bail while charges in Evans’ murder are pending against him.

“Whether a murder is seven months or seven years past, we don’t forget about the victim or the family,” Conley said. “We press on. We work the cases. We go out to the street and we go into the Grand Jury. Hand in hand with our police partners, we give every case everything we’ve got, and we don’t stop until the jury returns its verdict. This case isn’t over – it remains very, very active.”

Fredette told the court that 14 shell casings from two different firearms were found at the scene of Evans’ Jan. 16 shooting death near the intersection of Dorchester Avenue and Gallivan Boulevard. Fredette also told the court that a black, late-model Dodge Charger was seen in the area at the time of the shooting.

Three days later, Fredette said, Kersey was arrested in Quincy while driving a black, late-model Dodge Charger that had been rented. Inside the vehicle were firearms that are not believed to be among the weapons used in the boy’s homicide. Also inside the vehicle, however, was a shell casing in the driver’s side map well consistent with some of the casings found at the scene of his death.

Investigators developed evidence indicating that the rented vehicle was in Kersey’s control on Jan. 16. Additional evidence in cellular phone records puts Kersey in the area of Evans’ shooting death at around the time he was slain. Boston Police homicide detectives arrested Kersey on July 10 while he was in custody on unrelated charges.

Kersey is represented by attorney James Greenberg. He will return to court on Aug. 19.
