No Bail For Final Woolson Street Defendant

The last of three men charged in connection with the murders of four people in an early-morning Mattapan massacre was held without bail following his arraignment in Suffolk Superior Court this morning, Suffolk County District Attorney Daniel F. Conley said.

EDWARD WASHINGTON (D.O.B. 3/28/79) of Dorchester was arraigned today on four counts of murder for the Sept. 28 shooting deaths of Eyanna Flonory, 21, of Dorchester; her 2-year-old son, Amanihotep Smith; Simba Martin, 21, of Dorchester; and LeVaughn Washum-Garrison, 22, of Roslindale.

Washington was also charged with armed assault with intent to murder and aggravated assault and battery with a dangerous weapon for the non-fatal shooting of a 32-year-old Dorchester man, who was grievously wounded and paralyzed from the shoulders down.

He is additionally charged with armed home invasion, armed robbery, and unlawful possession of a firearm as a Level III armed career criminal.

“This defendant, along with his co-defendant KIMANI WASHINGTON, his cousin, and co-defendant DWAYNE MOORE perpetrated an armed robbery at 23 Sutton St. in Mattapan,” Assistant District Attorney Edmond Zabin told Clerk Magistrate Gary D. Wilson. Because Moore had previously resided at that address with Simba Martin, they believed there would be cash and drugs at that location.

“This defendant drove the group in a vehicle to Sutton Street from a Dorchester address,” Zabin said. “All three were armed.”

As he did at the other defendants’ arraignments, Zabin recounted the events leading to the massacre. Moore and Kimani Washington waited across the street from Martin’s home and tried to make cell phone contact with him in order to draw him out, Zabin said. As they did so, the surviving victim unexpectedly arrived in another vehicle and Martin came out to meet him.

Kimani Washington approached that surviving victim’s sport-utility vehicle with a gun and ordered both men out, Zabin said. At gunpoint, he allegedly forced them to remove their clothes and enter the Sutton Street apartment.

“At some point, this defendant entered the apartment,” Zabin said. “He was also armed with a weapon. The three men took various personal items out of the house, including a safe, a quantity of cocaine, and a large-screen television.”

The safe was placed in the surviving victim’s vehicle, which Kimani Washington then drove from the scene, Zabin said.

“This defendant and Dwayne Moore then marched the occupants of 23 Sutton St. up to the area of Woolson Street and Wildwood Street,” Zabin said. “Those individuals were all shot. Four of them were killed.”

The three defendants later met up again in Dorchester for the purpose of dividing the proceeds of the robbery, Zabin said.

“Some of those items were recovered from a home where Kimani Washington was staying,” Zabin told the court. “Other items have not been recovered up to this point.”

Boston Police homicide detectives arrested Edward Washington on Dec. 8 amid a months-long investigation on the street and behind the doors of the Suffolk County Grand Jury. That investigation led to a total of 23 indictments charging all four defendants with armed home invasion, armed robbery, and unlawful firearms possession. Moore and Edward Washington are additionally charged with the four murders and one attempted murder; Kimani Washington is additionally charged with armed carjacking and drug offenses.

Catherine Rodriguez is the DA’s assigned victim-witness advocate. Attorney John Cunha represents the defendant. The case will return to courtroom 906 at 2:00 tomorrow for a hearing on protective orders filed to restrict the flow of potentially sensitive investigative materials.
