NO BAIL FOR ONE OF TWO CHARGED IN FRANKLIN HILL DOUBLE MURDER

A Dorchester man was ordered held without bail today following his arraignment for the murders of Jarrid Campbell and Jeff Jones near the Franklin Hill housing development two years ago, Suffolk County District Attorney Daniel F. Conley announced today.

DONALD RAY WILLIAMS (D.O.B. 10/4/84) was formally charged today with two counts of first-degree murder and an additional count of unlawful possession of a firearm for the July 12, 2007, incident that claimed Campbell’s and Jones’ lives. Williams and a second man – STANLEY EARL JENKINS, Jr. (D.O.B. 4/18/83) of Roslindale – were indicted for the homicides after a two-year probe by Boston Police and Suffolk prosecutors.

Assistant District Attorney Masai King told Suffolk Superior Court Clerk Magistrate Robin Vaughan that Campbell and Jones were among about 150 attendees at a large outdoor concert earlier on the day they were slain. The concert featured music by local hip-hop musicians but was also attended by members of several area gangs.

King said that Campbell became engaged in an altercation with another partygoer. At about 11:15 pm, he and Jones went to the car in which they’d arrived, which was parked near the intersection of Shandon Road and Fermoy Heights Avenue. Shortly thereafter, King said, two assailants approached the car and fired multiple rounds at the victims, killing both.

“Witnesses have identified this defendant, Donald Ray Williams, as one of the gunmen,” King said.

King told the court that Williams is also awaiting trial on two separate non-fatal shootings he allegedly committed in Dorchester during the fall of 2007.

Williams will return to court with attorney Rosemary Scappicio on Sept. 29. Jenkins, who is currently serving a federal prison sentence for unrelated offenses, will be arraigned at a later date.
