NO BAIL FOR SUSPECT IN NOVEMBER SHOOTING DEATH

A Roxbury man who fled to Maine after allegedly gunning down Carl Bonnie last month was held without bail at his murder arraignment today, Suffolk County District Attorney Daniel F. Conley said.

Roxbury District Court Judge Tracy Lee Lyons ordered GREGORY KNIGHT (D.O.B. 5/16/82) held without bail, accommodating a request by Assistant District Attorney David Fredette.

Fredette told the court that Knight and another man were present in a Clifford Street apartment when the 39-year-old victim arrived shortly before 11:00 a.m. on Nov. 12. Multiple witnesses heard the sound of a gunshot and then saw Knight and the second man leaving the scene.

Conley urged anyone who might know the identity of that second person to contact the Boston Police CrimeStoppers Tip Line at 1-800-494-TIPS or text the word “TIP” to CRIME (27463).

Boston Police responded to the scene within moments, as did emergency medical technicians who observed Bonnie suffering a gunshot wound to the head. He was pronounced dead of that injury at the scene.

Despite a round-the clock search for Knight based on evidence developed in the homicide’s aftermath, investigators could not locate him within the City of Boston. On Nov. 16, however, members of the Boston Police Fugitive Apprehension Unit tracked him to Lewiston, Maine, where he was taken into custody. He was returned to Boston late yesterday.

Knight is represented by attorney John Hayes. He will return to court on Jan. 5.
