No Bail in Fatal Chelsea Shooting

BOSTON, Dec. 17, 2014—The suspect in a double shooting that left Javier Ortiz dead and another man with a gunshot wound to the chest was held without bail today after his arraignment in Chelsea District Court, Suffolk county District Attorney Daniel F. Conley said.

HECTOR ENAMORADO (D.O.B. 10/22/78) of Chelsea was arraigned on single counts of murder and armed assault with intent to murder for allegedly shooting Ortiz, age 29, and the surviving victim, age 34, inside a Chester Avenue apartment early Sunday morning.

Assistant District Attorney Amy Galatis told the court that both victims were rushed to Massachusetts General Hospital in Boston, where Ortiz died of his injuries. The second victim was shot in the chest but is expected to survive. Neither victim was a resident of the apartment where they were shot, but both were Chelsea residents.

Chelsea Police responded to the scene at about 3:05 on Sunday morning for a report of a person shot. They found the surviving victim outside, and that man directed the officers to an apartment in which Ortiz was mortally wounded. Based on evidence gathered at the scene, witness statements, and additional information gathered by Chelsea Police detectives and the Suffolk County State Police Detective Unit, which has jurisdiction over death investigations in Chelsea, prosecutors later that day approved a warrant charging Enamorado with murder. Enamorado was arrested on that warrant last night during a motor vehicle stop on Route 90 in Westborough.

Enamorado was represented today by attorney Frank Camera. He will return to court on Jan. 22.
