BOSTON, April 7, 2014—A man with no fixed residence was sent for a mental health evaluation today at his arraignment for allegedly breaking into a Boston couple’s boat and claiming to be a member of the Harbor Patrol when they returned to find him on board early Sunday morning, Suffolk County District Attorney Daniel F. Conley said.

ERIC PFALTZGRAFF (D.O.B. 4/7/14), who claimed a post office box as his address, was arraigned on charges of breaking and entering with intent to commit a felony, larceny over $250, and impersonating a police officer. Boston Municipal Court Judge Thomas Horgan imposed $5,000 and ordered a three-week evaluation at Bridgewater State Hospital.

The victims returned to their sailboat, docked off of Commercial Street, just after midnight on Sunday morning to find its door broken and slightly ajar.  Once inside, they allegedly found Pfaltzgraff sitting on their couch eating their cake and smoking a cigar with several beer cans lined up on their coffee table. The victims reported that he was wearing the male victim’s Rolex watch at the time, but later returned it.

When confronted, Pfaltzgraff allegedly stated that he owned the boat – and produced what he claimed were receipts to prove it. The receipts were unclear as to authenticity. Pfaltzgraff also allegedly claimed to work for the Boston Police Harbor Patrol, displaying a “Special Police” badge and baton that Boston Police seized as evidence when they took him into custody.

Pfaltzgraff was represented today by attorney Pat Murphy. He will return to court on April 28.
