One in Custody For Fatal Chelsea Stabbing

Chelsea Police and State Police homicide detectives assigned to Suffolk County District Attorney Daniel F. Conley’s office this afternoon arrested a Chelsea man in connection with three stabbings early this morning, one of them fatal.

OSCAR GUTTIEREZ-NUNES (D.O.B. 2/11/84) was arrested at Chelsea Police headquarters. He is expected to face arraignment Monday on one count of murder, one count of aggravated assault and battery with a dangerous weapon, and one count of assault and battery with a dangerous weapon.

Guttierez-Nunez is charged with the fatal stabbing of 24-year-old Daniel Hernandez-Martinez of East Boston. The surviving victims are a 29-year-old East Boston man and a 19-year-old Revere man. The East Boston victim remains hospitalized in critical condition.

Chelsea Police responded to the area of Everett Avenue and Carter Street just before 1:00 this morning for a report of a man down. On arrival, they found Hernandez-Martinez suffering from grievous injuries in the street near 213 Everett Ave. and the East Boston man also with serious injuries in a motor vehicle a short distance away.

Hernandez-Martinez was rushed to Whidden Memorial Hospital, where he died of his injuries. The second victim was taken to Massachusetts General Hospital. In light of the life-threatening injuries, Chelsea Police notified the Suffolk County State Police Detective Unit, which has jurisdiction over all death investigations in Chelsea, Revere, and Winthrop.

Later this morning, investigators were alerted to the third victim, who had admitted himself to MGH with injuries that were not life-threatening.

Based on witness statements, forensic evidence, and other information developed throughout the morning and afternoon, prosecutors late this afternoon approved warrants charging Guttierez-Nunez with murder.

Members of the Chelsea Fire Department also responded to the early-morning scene to administer medical assistance. The State Police Crime Scene Services Section is lending its assistance to the investigation as well.

Conley and Chelsea Police Chief Brian Kyes said the investigation was “very active” and urged anyone with information on the incident to contact Chelsea Police detectives at 617-466-2864 or State Police at 617-727-8817.
