Prosecutors Bring New Charges against Former Teacher’s Assistant

BOSTON, May 4, 2012—Suffolk County District Attorney Daniel F. Conley today announced a three-count indictment charging a former teacher’s assistant with improper sexual activity with two children at two Dorchester schools last year.

The indictments charge LaSHAWN HILL (D.O.B. 3/10/78) of Dorchester with indecent assault and battery on a child for an incident with a 7-year-old boy at the Martin Luther King, Jr., School in March 2011. They also charge Hill with lewd and lascivious behavior and lascivious acts with a child under 16 for another incident involving a 14-year-old boy, who is autistic and non-verbal, at the Harbor Pilot Middle School on Dec. 12, 2011.

The indictments follow a five-month investigation by Boston Police detectives and Suffolk prosecutors assigned to Conley’s Child Protection Unit. The investigation began late last year after a Harbor School employee came upon Hill and the 14-year-old alone in a room with their pants unfastened. That incident led to information on the earlier case at the King School, in which Hill is alleged to have touched the younger child.

“These indictments are the result of a multidisciplinary investigation,” Conley said. “They’re the result of skilled forensic interviews, dogged police work, and a prosecution team that put the protection of the children above all else.”

Boston Police obtained complaints charging Hill with lewd and lascivious behavior shortly after learning of the Harbor School incident. He was arraigned on that charge in Dorchester District Court on Dec. 16 and held on $10,000 cash bail. Hill is additionally charged with larceny from that school for his alleged involvement in the theft of five laptop computers, an offense for which he was held on an additional $3,500 cash bail.

Assistant District Attorney Leora Joseph will represent the Commonwealth at Hill’s arraignment in Suffolk Superior Court on May 10. Kate Lagana is the DA’s assigned victim-witness advocate.
