Second Defendant Charged in Daylight Homicide at Busy Intersection

BOSTON, Feb. 21, 2018—A second defendant in the homicide of 21-year-old Shaquille Browder was held without bail at his arraignment today, Suffolk County District Attorney Daniel F. Conley said.

RALPH BROWN (D.O.B. 3/10/74) was apprehended by the Boston Police Fugitive Apprehension Unit in Holbrook this morning on warrants approved by Suffolk prosecutors on Feb. 13. He was transported to Dorchester Municipal Court, where he was formally charged with murder and unlawful possession of a firearm.

Assistant District Attorney Catherine Ham of the DA’s Homicide Unit told the court that Brown participated jointly with KYLE WILLIAMS (D.O.B. 4/14/86) to commit the homicide in broad daylight at a parking lot near Columbia Road and Washington Street – one of the city’s busiest intersections.

Ham said Browder pulled into the parking lot at about 2:00 pm, apparently unaware that he was being followed by a Chevrolet Tahoe and a white U-Haul pick-up truck. When Browder parked, those two vehicles stopped nearby. Shortly thereafter, Ham said, an occupant of the Tahoe got out, approached Browder’s car, and fired a handgun into it. Browder exited and began to run. At that point, the evidence suggests, he was hit by additional gunfire from the pickup.

As with the case against Williams, who was arraigned Feb. 14, investigators were assisted by video footage, cell phone and tower records, and rental records. Brown allegedly rented the U-Haul truck and his phone records show that he was in contact with Williams and following Browder’s vehicle in the period just before the shooting.

Brown was represented at arraignment by attorney Christopher Belezos. He will return to court on March 22.
