BOSTON, Jan. 8, 2018—A Roxbury man was held without bail at his arraignment today as the second person charged with murder in the shooting death last month of 17-year-old Philip Demings, Suffolk County District Attorney Daniel F. Conley said.

JAWONE SHEPARD (D.O.B. 4/14/99) was arraigned today in Dorchester Municipal Court today on a charge of murder in connection with Demings’ Dec. 19 homicide.  At the request of Assistant District Attorney Thomas Flanagan of the DA’s Homicide Unit, Judge Thomas Kaplanes ordered Shepard held without bail.

Flanagan told the court that, on the afternoon of Dec. 19, Jawone Shepard drove his brother, JAQUAN SHEPARD (D.O.B. 12/23/97), to the area of Bowdoin Street. Jaquan Shepard exited the vehicle and fired repeatedly at Demings, causing fatal injuries, then ran to a nearby location where he re-entered the car.  Jawone Shepard then drove away from this location, Flanagan said, and the evidence suggests that the sequence of events was planned out in advance.

Boston Police homicide detectives and Suffolk homicide prosecutors identified the two men through surveillance camera images, witness statements, and other evidence. A warrant for Jaquan Shepard’s arrest was issued Friday.  He was taken into custody earlier today when he surrendered himself to Boston Police. His arraignment follows that of Jaquan Shepard, who was held without bail on his own murder charge on Jan. 2.

Elise McConnell is the DA’s assigned victim-witness advocate.  Jawone Shepard is represented by Jonathan Shapiro.  He and his brother both return to court Feb. 8.
