Single-Car Crash Kills Driver in Chelsea

BOSTON, Nov. 17, 2014—Chelsea and State police are investigating a single-car crash just before 1:00 a.m. that left one man dead and another injured.

The preliminary investigation suggests that a 35-year-old East Boston man driving a 2001 GMC sport-utility vehicle on 4th Street at a high rate of speed when he hit a signpost at the corner of Cherry Street and then collided with the exterior of a building.

The operator and his passenger were both transported to Massachusetts General Hospital. The driver died of his injuries. The passenger, a 47-year-old East Boston man, remains hospitalized.

The crash is being investigated by detectives assigned to the Chelsea Police Criminal Investigation Division and troopers assigned to the Suffolk County State Police Detective Unit, which has jurisdiction over death investigations in Chelsea, Revere, Winthrop, and parts of Boston.
