Spirited Chase Leads to Weymouth Man’s Arrest on Attempted Robbery Charge

An alleged drug dealer from Weymouth was charged with trying to rob a commuter at knifepoint at South Station this morning, Suffolk County District Attorney Daniel F. Conley said.

CHRISTOPHER SPIRIDIS-CHASE (D.O.B. 7/9/92) was arraigned on attempted robbery and drug charges in the Boston Municipal Court this afternoon for the incident, which prompted MBTA employees and civilians to pursue and detain him.

Assistant District Attorney David Givskud recommended that Spiridis-Chase be held on $15,000 cash bail and have his open bail on an unrelated case out of Quincy revoked. Judge Annette Forde set bail at $750 and declined to revoke his open bail; she did, however, order him to stay away from South Station while his case is pending.

Spiridis-Chase allegedly tried to rob a woman of property as she was walking on the outbound Red Line platform at about 7:00 a.m. He allegedly tried to physically remove her headphones while pointing a knife at her.

The victim screamed and the suspect ran. Passengers in the station ran after him, as did an on-scene MBTA inspector, and Spiridis-Chase was apprehended just after clearing the fare gates.

In the course of a search, MBTA Transit Police recovered from Spiridis-Chase’s pockets a folding knife and four plastic baggies containing powdery substances believed to be heroin and cocaine. Spiridis-Chase allegedly stated that he sold the drugs for money.

Spiridis-Chase will return to court on Jan. 11 with attorney Richard Noone.
