State Police Investigating Fatal Motorcycle Crash

BOSTON, Sept. 23, 2013—State Police are investigating a fatal crash involving a motorcyclist on Storrow Drive last night, Suffolk County District Attorney Daniel F. Conley said.

The deceased, a man in his 40s, has been tentatively identified but investigators have not yet confirmed his identity through next of kin.

A State trooper travelling eastbound on Storrow Drive came across the crash site shortly before 10:30 last night. He observed the deceased, who was wearing a helmet, lying in the roadway near a Harley Davidson motorcycle on its side a short distance past the Longfellow Bridge. The trooper called for medical assistance, but the man had died of his injuries.

Detectives assigned to the Suffolk County State Police Detective Unit, which has jurisdiction over death investigations on State roadways within the City of Boston, responded to the scene, along with Troop H investigators, the Crime Scene Services Section, and the Collision Analysis and Reconstruction Section.

State Police experts are attempting to determine the cause and circumstances of the crash, but investigators observed scrape marks on the pavement, the curb, and a Jersey barrier near the end of a tight curve in the roadway.

Anyone with information on the crash is asked to contact State Police detectives at 617-727-8817.
