State Police Investigating Pedestrian Fatality on VFW Parkway

State Police detectives assigned to Suffolk County District Attorney Daniel F. Conley’s office are investigating a collision on VFW Parkway in West Roxbury last night that claimed a young man’s life.

State Police responded to the area of Gardner Street shortly after 10:00 p.m. for a report of a pedestrian struck by a motor vehicle. That pedestrian, later identified as 17-year-old Francis McInerney of West Roxbury, was transported to Brigham and Women’s Hospital with extensive injuries. He was pronounced deceased just before 1:00 a.m.

The preliminary investigation suggests that McInerney was one of six young men crossing VFW Parkway. Investigators believe he was struck by a black Acura operated by an adult male, who stopped his vehicle immediately, remained at the scene, and has cooperated with law enforcement.

The preliminary investigation does not suggest that the driver was impaired or negligent in his operation of the vehicle. A determination of the vehicle’s speed will be made by crash reconstruction experts. The driver has not been charged and authorities are not releasing his identity at this time.

The collision remains under investigation by the Suffolk County State Police Detective Unit, which has jurisdiction over death investigations on State roadways within the City of Boston. They are assisted by Suffolk prosecutors, the State Police Collision Analysis and Reconstruction Section, and troopers assigned to the Milton Barracks.
