State Police Investigating Two Incidents, One of Them Fatal, at Belle Isle Marsh

BOSTON, June 7, 2016–State Police assigned to the Revere Barracks and Suffolk County District Attorney’s office are investigating separate incidents that left two men injured, one of them fatally, at the Belle Isle Marsh last week.  The two incidents have not been conclusively linked, but State Police are advising the public of them and increasing patrols in an abundance of caution.

The first incident occurred on Sunday, May 29. An 83-year-old East Boston man was discovered at about 2:45 pm with a serious head injury and transported to Massachusetts General Hospital.  The man’s injuries prevented him from giving an account of what had happened. He succumbed to his injuries on June 1, after which State Police were notified.  The Office of the Chief Medical Examiner has not yet determined the cause or manner of his death.

The second incident occurred on the afternoon of Wednesday, June 1, and involved an assault against a 67-year-old Lynn man.  That man suffered non-life threatening injuries. Based on evidence developed by State Police detectives during the course of their investigation, the assailant in this second incident is described as a male in his late 20s or 30s, approximately 5’9” tall, and wearing a hat, t-shirt and shorts that were all beige or brown in color.

Anyone with information about either incident is urged to share it with investigators.  The Suffolk County State Police Detective Unit can be reached at 617-727-8817.

State Police are increasing high-visibility patrols in the Belle Isle Marsh area starting immediately.
