Stoneham Pair Charged With Multiple Assaults Outside Bar

A suburban couple’s night at a downtown bar ended in a police station lock-up after they punched, bit, and pulled a knife on three victims, including a Boston Police officer, Suffolk County District Attorney Daniel F. Conley’s office said in court this week.

JOHNATHAN COLLERAN (D.O.B. 6/18/82) and JENNA CIAMPA (D.O.B. 5/30/84), both of Stoneham, were arraigned in the Boston Municipal Court yesterday for their alleged actions on State Street early Sunday morning. Colleran was charged with three counts of assault and battery as well as single counts of assault with a dangerous weapon and resisting arrest. Ciampa was charged with assault and battery on a public employee.

Boston Municipal Court Judge Annette Forde set Colleran’s bail at $700 and Ciampa’s bail at $1,000. At the request of Assistant District Attorney Ryan Mingo’s request, Forde also revoked Ciampa’s bail on an unrelated case out of Woburn District Court.

Boston Police were called to the Black Rose on State Street at about 1:45 a.m. for a report that a patron, later identified as Colleran, had just punched a 21-year-old New York man in the face. A responding officer saw Colleran and his girlfriend, Ciampa, leaving the scene on Chatham Street. The officer called out for the pair to stop, which they allegedly ignored.

When the officer caught up to them, Colleran allegedly pushed him. A struggle ensued, and as the officer tried to place Collera in handcuffs, Colleran allegedly pulled a knife. As the officer attempted to disarm and subdue him, Ciampa allegedly jumped on the officer’s back.

A 37-year-old Jamaica Plain man saw the fracas and assisted the officer. Colleran allegedly bit him on the chest for his trouble.

The knife, a stag-handled Winchester folding knife, was recovered at the scene.

Attorney Paul Derby represents Colleran and attorney Shannon Lopez represents Ciampa. Both defendants will return to court on Aug. 11.
