SUFFOLK VICTIM ADVOCATE REACHES 25TH ANNIVERSARY

A Suffolk County victim-witness advocate will be honored tomorrow for his quarter century of service to the victims of violent crime in Boston, Chelsea, Revere, and Winthrop, District Attorney Daniel F. Conley said today.

The Massachusetts Office of Victim Assistance will honor Michael Coffey’s 25th anniversary tomorrow at the Massachusetts State House as part of a day-long event observing Victims Rights Month and recognizing leaders in the field of victim services.

“From the time a case is assigned until well after it’s concluded, Michael is often the bridge between a victim or family and the criminal justice system,” Conley said. “His kindness, his patience, and his generosity are legendary in his field. In a time of need, there are few better friends than Michael Coffey.”

Coffey has been helping the victims of crime and their families since Feb. 4, 1985, when he began his career in Roxbury District Court. Since then, he has worked alongside prosecutors in the Suffolk DA’s Homicide Unit and Major Felony Bureau to ensure that the voices of victims are heard.

“Michael’s worked on cases at every level of seriousness, and he’s never forgotten that, to the victim, every case matters,” Conley said.

The ceremony at which Coffey will be honored begins at 11:30 in the Gardner Auditorium at the State House.
