Suspect Held in Fatal Stabbing

BOSTON, May 30, 2018— A Roslindale man has been ordered held without bail in the stabbing death of 41-year-old Mackenson Henry during an altercation in Hyde Park yesterday, Suffolk County District Attorney Daniel F. Conley said.

RUDY JEAN-BAPTISTE, 28, was arraigned today in West Roxbury Municipal Court on a charge of murder. At the request of Assistant District Attorney Craig Iannini of the DA’s Homicide Unit, Judge Mary Ann Driscoll ordered Jean-Baptiste held without bail.

Shortly before 5:40 p.m. yesterday, Boston Police responded to the area of 1205 Hyde Park Ave. for a report of a person stabbed. Upon their arrival, officers located the victim suffering from multiple stab wounds inside a barber shop, where staff and customers were administering CPR and medical aid.
Henry was transported to Brigham and Women’s Hospital, where he later succumbed to his injuries.

Investigators learned that Henry had been involved in a physical altercation with another man who chased him into the barbershop while wielding a knife. Jean-Baptiste suffered a facial injury in the altercation.

While at the crime scene, a Boston Police sergeant was handed a cell phone and spoke with a caller later identified as Jean-Baptiste, who allegedly made statements that he had been involved in a fight and wished to speak with police. He agreed to meet with detectives to be interviewed.

Upon meeting with Jean-Baptiste at the Area E-18 police station, investigators observed that he had injuries to his head and face and was carrying a bloody bandage, prosecutors said. Based on statements made during a post-Miranda interview and additional evidence collected during the course of the investigation, Jean-Baptiste was placed under arrest.

Anite Cetoute is the DA’s assigned victim witness advocate. Jean-Baptiste was represented by Peter Marano. He returns to court July 11.
