Suspect Held without Bail in Fatal Dorchester Stabbing

BOSTON, Sept. 14, 2015—The man accused of stabbing 29-year-old Sean Dwyer to death outside his Dorchester barbershop was arraigned on a murder indictment today, Suffolk County District Attorney Daniel F. Conley said.

DOMINIC SHINER (D.O.B. 1/6/82) was arraigned on one count of first-degree murder in connection with Dwyer’s Dec. 12, 2014, homicide. At the request of Assistant District Attorney Julie Higgins, Clerk Anne Kaczmarek ordered him held without bail pending trial.

Higgins told the court that the six-month grand jury investigation entailed testimony from more than a dozen witnesses and the review of video evidence from the area, telephone records, social media postings, DNA testing, and Shiner’s own statements.

Shiner and Dwyer knew one another, prosecutors say, and the defendant had visited the victim’s Adams Street barbershop asking for money on Dec. 10, two days before the stabbing. He returned on the evening of Dec. 12 and allegedly stabbed Dwyer once in the chest, causing fatal injuries.

Boston Police responded to the scene at about 6:20 p.m. after a call for an unresponsive male in the street. He was pronounced dead at the scene. There were no witnesses to the stabbing, but homicide detectives and prosecutors followed every avenue available to them, leading to Dwyer’s indictment Friday by the Suffolk County Grand Jury and his arrest yesterday by the Boston Police Fugitive Unit.

Shiner is represented by attorney Michael Doolin. He will return to court on Oct. 15.
