Suspect in Custody for Fatal Chelsea Shooting

BOSTON, March 6, 2013—An Everett man is in custody for last night’s fatal shooting in Chelsea, Suffolk County District Attorney Daniel F. Conley and Chelsea Police Chief Brian Kyes announced.

JONATHAN CASTRO SALA, 22, is charged with murder. He is expected to be arraigned in Chelsea District Court today for the homicide of a man in his 20s on Blossom Street. The victim has been tentatively identified but his name is not being released at this time.

Chelsea Police detectives and State Police homicide detectives assigned to Conley’s office responded to the area of 52 Blossom St. at about 9:00 last night for a report of a person shot. Based on witness interviews, physical evidence recovered at the scene, and other information developed through the overnight hours, prosecutors approved Sala’s arrest this morning.

The Suffolk County State Police Detective Unit has jurisdiction over death investigations in Chelsea, Revere, Winthrop, and State property within the City of Boston. They were assisted last night by the State Police Crime Scene Services Section and troopers assigned to the Revere barracks.
