A suspect is in custody for a double stabbing on an MBTA bus last year that left one young man dead and another injured, Boston Police Commissioner Edward Davis and Suffolk District Attorney Daniel F. Conley said.

Boston Police today arrested KIM GROSS, Jr. (D.O.B. 12/7/92), of Roslindale on a murder charge stemming from the Nov. 2, 2010, stabbing death of 21-year-old Richard Allen. Gross is additionally charged with assault and battery with a dangerous weapon for the non-fatal stabbing of a second victim, then 18, and unlawful possession of a firearm for an unregistered firearm recovered from the car in which he was arrested today.

“The brazen and public nature of this violent attack shook an entire community,” Davis said. “I applaud the diligent work of the Homicide detectives, Suffolk prosecutors, and Transit police for holding this violent suspect accountable for both the homicide and the assault he committed against the community.”

The arrest came amid an ongoing investigation by Boston Police homicide detectives, MBTA Transit Police, and Suffolk prosecutors. It is the second this year for a homicide committed in 2010. Gross is expected to be arraigned Monday in Roxbury District Court.

Boston Police and MBTA Transit Police responded to the area of Humboldt Avenue and Wyoming Street at about 9:00 a.m. on Nov. 2 for a report of persons stabbed on a bus. On arrival, they found Allen suffering from grievous injuries aboard a Route 44 MBTA bus. Allen was rushed to Boston Medical Center, where he died of his injuries.

“The investigation began at that moment, continued for the next three months, and remains active even today,” Conley said. “We don’t give up on these crimes, and we urge the community not to either. If you have information on this case or any other, you can share it with us safely and anonymously.”

Davis and Conley both noted the resources and assistance lent by the MBTA and Transit Police Chief Paul MacMillan.

“Today’s arrest continues to show the cooperation and effective partnership between the Transit Police, the District Attorney’s office and the Boston Police,” MacMillan said. “All of these agencies work together day in and day out to ensure the safety of the citizens of Boston and riders of the MBTA.”

Officers found a second victim outside the bus suffering from less serious injuries. He, too, was transported to the BMC, where he was treated for injuries deemed not life-threatening.
