Suspect in Custody For July Homicide in Chelsea

Suffolk County District Attorney Daniel F. Conley and Chelsea Police Chief Brian Kyes today announced the arrest of a suspect in the shooting death of Braulio Gomez in Chelsea earlier this summer.

Authorities in the State of Ohio arrested SANTOS PORTILLO (D.O.B. 7/4/90) last night just outside Columbus on a Massachusetts warrant charging him with murder. Portillo is expected to appear in a courthouse there next week; the date of his return to Massachusetts has not yet been scheduled.

Gomez, 38, suffered fatal gunshot injuries at about 2:30 a.m. on July 16. He was transported from the area of 104 Central Ave. to Whidden Memorial Hospital, where he was pronounced dead of his injuries. State Police homicide detectives assigned to Conley’s office and Chelsea Police detectives have been searching for Portillo since that time.

Conley and Chelsea Police Chief Brian Kyes urged anyone with information on the shooting to share it with authorities by calling the Chelsea Police CrimeStoppers tip line 617-466-4880, by texting CHELSEA and their message to TIP411 from their cell phone, or by calling State Police at 617-727-8817. All callers may remain anonymous if they wish.
