Suspect in Custody for Relative’s Fatal Stabbing

BOSTON, Aug. 2, 2012—Boston Police Commissioner Edward Davis and Suffolk County District Attorney Daniel F. Conley today announced that a suspect is in custody for the Tuesday night stabbing of his nephew, 43-year-old Curtis Cox, who died yesterday of his injuries.

DERRICK BULLOCK (D.O.B. 8/13/71) of Mattapan is currently held on $50,000 cash bail for allegedly stabbing Cox in the neck Tuesday night on Blue Hill Avenue. Responding Boston Police arrested Bullock shortly after the incident and Suffolk prosecutors arraigned him yesterday in Dorchester District Court on charges of aggravated assault and battery and armed assault with intent to murder.

Cox was transported to Boston Medical Center, where he succumbed to his injuries yesterday. In the aftermath of his death, prosecutors approved a warrant charging Bullock with murder; Boston Police will lodge that warrant at the Suffolk County Jail today to ensure that he remains in custody.

An arraignment date for Bullock on the new charge has not yet been scheduled.

At about 9:24pm, on Tuesday, July 31, 2012, Boston Police officers assigned to District B-3 responded to a radio call for a person stabbed inside Mattapan House of Pizza at 1631 Blue Hill Avenue. On arrival, they located a male victim, later identified as Cox, suffering from stab wounds. The man was transported to Boston Medical Center with life-threatening injuries.

Officers spoke with witnesses who said they observed an altercation between the victim and the suspect. The witnesses also positively identified the suspect to officers.

Bullock is represented by attorney Kelly Cusack. He will return to court on Aug. 29.
