Suspect in Custody For Revere Hit-and-Run

An East Boston man is in custody this afternoon, charged with motor vehicle homicide and leaving the scene of the collision that killed 22-year-old Sothany Pen this morning, Suffolk County District Attorney Daniel F. Conley announced.

JON RAVIDA (D.O.B. 3/20/64) was taken into custody by Revere Police detectives and State Police homicide detectives assigned to Conley’s office following statements he made during an interview at Revere Police Headquarters. Investigators believe he was the operator of the dark, late-model Ford Explorer that struck Pen on Lee Burbank Highway at about 5:50 this morning.

Ravida was identified as a suspect through multiple witness interviews, surveillance imagery, and other evidence developed throughout the day. Investigators approached him at his residence; a garage linked to that address has been frozen pending the execution of a search warrant.

Pen was struck and mortally injured after she left her night-shift job at a nearby department store and crossed the road from east to west. The vehicle that struck her continued travelling southbound without stopping. Pen was transported to Massachusetts General Hospital, where she was pronounced deceased.

Revere Police and the Suffolk County State Police Detective Unit – which has jurisdiction over all death investigations in Chelsea, Revere, and Winthrop – began gathering evidence almost immediately. The State Police Collision Analysis and Reconstruction Section and Crime Scene Services Section also responded to assist.

Ravida is expected to be arraigned tomorrow in Chelsea District Court.
