Swampscott Man Charged in Beating near Revere Beach

BOSTON, May 14, 2012—A Swampscott man was arraigned today for allegedly beating a former business partner badly and biting part of his nose off after a meeting inside a Revere restaurant earlier this month, Suffolk County District Attorney Daniel F. Conley said.

KENNETH MICHAUD (D.O.B. 10/8/71) was charged today with mayhem, assault and battery, assault and battery with a dangerous weapon, and assault with intent to kill for the May 2 incident outside a Revere Beach Boulevard restaurant.

Assistant District Attorney Nicholas Brandt recommended that Michaud be held on $5,000 cash bail. Judge Benjamin Barnes released him on his own recognizance.

Evidence developed by Revere Police suggests that Michaud and the 43-year-old victim were partners in a Saugus business venture from which the victim had decided to disengage. The two men met at the restaurant on May 2 to discuss that decision.

The conversation became heated, and they eventually left shortly before 11:00. Once outside, Michaud allegedly attacked the victim, striking him in the back of the head, knocking him to the ground, and kicking him.

Michaud allegedly claimed to be a member of the Hell’s Angels and threatened to kill the victim. At one point, while the victim was on the ground, Michaud began to bite the man on the face, tearing part of his nose off. The victim was transported to Massachusetts General Hospital and, later, the Massachusetts Eye and Ear Infirmary for treatment.

Multiple Revere Police units responded to the scene, securing video surveillance imagery from the staff and taking statements from multiple witnesses. Based on the totality of evidence, they obtained a warrant for Michaud’s arrest last week; Michaud surrendered today.

The defendant is represented by attorney Gary Zerola. He will return to court on June 12.
