Swampscott Man Held as Stabbing Victim Remains Hospitalized

A Tewksbury man remains hospitalized today after his alleged assailant was arraigned on attempted murder charges stemming from the weekend incident in Revere, Suffolk County District Attorney Daniel F. Conley said.

JAMAAL ANDRADE (D.O.B. 6/10/83) of Swampscott was charged yesterday in Chelsea District Court, where Assistant District Attorney Andrew Miller recommended bail of $75,000. Judge James Wexler set bail at $5,000.

Miller told the court that the 22-year-old victim had been at a party on Alden Avenue in the early morning hours of Dec. 18. That man was in a car with friends preparing to leave when a second car rear-ended his vehicle. The victim got out of the car and began to yell at Andrade, who was driving the second car. Andrade allegedly accelerated at the victim, who jumped up onto the hood of Andrade’s car and broke the windshield.

Andrade allegedly got out of his car and the two began to argue. The argument quickly became a physical confrontation and Andrade allegedly retrieved a knife from inside the car. Prosecutors say he chased the victim around the vehicle several times and stabbed him in the back before fleeing.

The victim was rushed to East Boston Health Center and then to Boston Medical Center with a deep stab wound that doctors say narrowly missed his vital organs. The man is in stable condition but remains intubated, Miller told the court.

As Miller recited the facts of the stabbing, Andrade shouted from the prisoner’s dock that he only did it because the victim punched him “and pushed my lips against the window.”

Swampscott Police arrested Andrade a short time later after responding to a report of a disturbance at a home in that town. At the time of his arrest, Andrade was wanted for violating the terms of a suspended sentence for an August drug conviction.

Andrade was represented by attorney Paul Anthony. He will return to court on Jan. 18.
