Teen Charged in Stabbing Outside School

BOSTON, Jan. 13, 2015— A Dorchester teen was arraigned yesterday for allegedly stabbing another teen during a fight last week outside the Jeremiah E. Burke High School, Suffolk County District Attorney Daniel F. Conley said.

The 16-year-old male was arraigned in the juvenile session of Dorchester Municipal Court on a charge of delinquency to wit: assault and battery with a dangerous weapon.  Assistant District Attorney Ryan Hawkins requested bail of $5,000 and that the juvenile stay away and have no contact with the victim, abide by a 6:00 p.m. curfew, and submit to GPS monitoring – already a condition of his open bail on other criminal cases.  Hawkins requested that bail be revoked in those open cases, in which the juvenile is charged with assault with a dangerous weapon, breaking and entering, larceny, and other offenses.  Judge Michael Coyne imposed $1,000 bail and the requested conditions of release but declined to revoke the defendant’s bail.

Boston Police responded to a stabbing in the area of Columbia Road and Geneva Street behind the Jeremiah E. Burke High School shortly before 4:15 p.m. Friday.  The 17-year-old victim, who had been stabbed in the upper back, was transported by a family member to Boston Medical Center for treatment.

During the course of their investigation into the stabbing, Boston Police learned that the stabbing occurred during a verbal argument and identified the 16-year-old defendant as a suspect.  Officers located him using the GPS tracker he had been ordered to wear during the pendency of an unrelated ongoing criminal case, prosecutors said.

Officers seized a knife from the juvenile, which has been submitted for testing along with his clothing and the clothing worn by the victim when he was stabbed.

The juvenile was represented by Audrey Murillo.  He will return to court Jan. 20.
