Teen Charged With Unlicensed Gun, Discharge

A Jamaica Plain youth was held on high bail after being charged with carrying and discharging an unlicensed handgun during his arrest by Boston Police yesterday, Suffolk County District Attorney Daniel F. Conley said.

TYRE WADE (D.O.B. 10/27/91) was arraigned in Roxbury District Court on a nine-count complaint charging him with unlawful possession of a .22 caliber Ruger MK II semiautomatic handgun, unlawful possession of ammunition, unlawfully carrying a loaded firearm, assault with a dangerous weapon, unlawfully discharging a firearm, and other offenses. In light of a 2009 conviction for assault and battery with a dangerous weapon for which he served two years in jail, Wade is charged as a Level I armed career criminal.

Judge Pamela Dashiell set bail at $100,000 cash, the amount recommended by Assistant District Attorney Matthew Feeney of Conley’s Gang Unit. Feeney also sought an order that Wade stay away from the areab in which he was arrested, submitting a mapped “exclusionary zone” bordered by Columbus Avenue, Washington Street, Marcella Street, and Highland Street; Dashiell imposed that order.

Boston Police following up on a firearm investigation were in the area of Academy Homes at about 11:15 a.m. when they saw Wade walking near the courtyard touching the area of his waistband. Based on their prior training, the officers believed these actions to be consistent with the suspect carrying a firearm.
The officers approached Wade to speak with him. Wade said he had to go to his aunt’s house. When told that it would only take a short time, Wade allegedly began to run away from the officers. When an officer grabbed at him, Wade allegedly placed both hands at his front waistband and continued to sprint away from them.

The officers gave chase on foot. Between 59 and 61 Slayton Way, when one of the officers was about five feet away from him, the officers saw Wade remove a handgun from his waistband and heard the sound of a gunshot. Wade allegedly tossed the gun in a parking lot and continued to run until officers apprehended him in the area of 9 Slayton Way.

Wade was represented by attorney Carla Barrett. He will return to court on Oct. 3.
