Three Arraigned on Various Charges in Fatal March Gunfight

BOSTON, Oct. 24, 2016— Three people charged in connection with the shootout that killed 28-year-old Allex Bryant faced arraignment today, Suffolk County District Attorney Daniel F. Conley said.

NICCOKAWON PLEDGER (D.O.B. 12/20/89) of Quincy was arraigned today in Suffolk Superior Court on charges of first-degree murder, assault with intent to murder, assault and battery with a dangerous weapon, and firearms offenses.  His girlfriend, LISA LEWIS (D.O.B. 10/22/91) of Quincy, was arraigned as an accessory after the fact to the shooting that killed Bryant.  Also arraigned was DAQUON BROWN (D.O.B. 8/29/93), charged with assault with intent to murder, assault and battery with a dangerous weapon, and firearms offenses.

At the request of Assistant District Attorney Craig Iannini of the DA’s Homicide Unit, Clerk Magistrate Lisa Medeiros ordered Pledger held without bail.  Bail for Lewis was set in the amount of $25,000 and $3,000 for Brown – the same amounts that were imposed at their September arraignments in Roxbury Municipal Court.

Pledger’s brother, DARTANYAN PLEDGER (D.O.B. 1/15/92) of Dorchester, has been in custody in Atlanta since his arrest by US Marshals on Aug. 25.  He is expected to be returned to Massachusetts at a later date.

According to prosecutors, Niccokawon Pledger was at a party at a Humboldt Avenue apartment on March 21 but left prior to the arrival of Bryant and Brown.  Pledger later returned to the area with Lewis in her Nissan Maxima, and Dartanyan Pledger arrived separately.

Prosecutors say Bryant and Brown left the party and entered a motor vehicle, where Bryant was fatally shot by the Pledger brothers. Brown, who was injured, allegedly fired multiple times from the corner of Humboldt and Monroe Street as they ran from the scene.

Niccokawon Pledger allegedly disposed of an object, which was later found to be a firearm that was a ballistic match to shell casings at the shooting scene, inside a parked Toyota owned by Dartanyan Pledger.  A second gun located on the ground near the car was matched to the bullet that killed Bryant.  Both men then entered the Nissan allegedly driven by Lewis and fled the area.

Brown suffered a gunshot wound to the ankle in the exchange.  He was located in the Humboldt Avenue apartment where the party occurred and was transported to a hospital for treatment of his gunshot wound.  A search of the location led to the discovery of a firearm that was matched to ballistic evidence located at the scene of the shooting, prosecutors said.

Cell phone records indicate that Niccokawon and Dartanyan Pledger were in contact prior to the shooting and place each of the defendants in the area of Humboldt Avenue at the time of the gunfight, prosecutors said.

Elise McConnell was the DA’s assigned victim-witness advocate.  Pledger was represented by Christopher Belezos, Lewis by the Committee for Public Counsel Services, and Brown by Skip Hakala. They return to court Nov. 22.
