Three, Including 15-Year-Old, Held in Last Night’s Fatal Shooting

BOSTON, Oct. 18, 2012—Three young men, including a 15-year-old, were formally charged today with murder for their alleged roles in a fatal shooting in Boston’s South End last night, Suffolk County District Attorney Daniel F. Conley said.

Arrested by Boston Police last night and arraigned on murder and firearms charges today were RAYMOND CONCEPCION (D.O.B. 4/30/97), JAQUAN HILL (D.O.B. 8/18/93), and SHAKEEM JOHNSON (D.O.B. 10/24/90). All three have residences in Hyde Park, though Hill was booked with a Brockton address and Concepcion was booked with a Mattapan address.

At the request of Assistant District Attorney Jennifer Hickman of the DA’s Homicide Unit, Roxbury District Court Judge Shannon Frisson ordered all three held without bail pending trial.

Hickman told the court that the victim, who has been identified but whose name is not being released until full family notifications are made, was a man in his 20s driving a motor vehicle with one passenger. The vehicle was stopped in traffic in the area of 85 Southampton St.

Another vehicle stopped a few car lengths behind the victim’s, prosecutors say, and an individual exited. That individual walked through traffic, approached the victim’s car, and fired multiple shots into it before returning to the car and climbing into its back seat.

The victim was struck by the gunfire. He was transported to Boston Medical Center, where he was pronounced dead of his injuries.

Also stopped in traffic was a Boston Police detective. That detective heard multiple shots, saw the individual getting into the back seat, and watched the car begin to leave the scene. He gave chase and briefly boxed the suspect vehicle in, but the vehicle was able to speed off.

Multiple Boston Police and State Police units began a pursuit of the vehicle, which was eventually stopped on Route 93. Hill was behind the steering wheel, Johnson – who was wearing a court-ordered GPS monitoring device – was in the front passenger’s seat, and Concepcion was in the back seat.

After an extensive search of the area, investigators recovered a firearm believed to have been used in the shooting.

Concepcion was represented by attorney John Cuhna, Hill by attorney Christopher Belezos, and Johnson by attorney Matthew Feinberg. All three will return to court on Dec. 5.
