BOSTON, Jan. 2, 2012—A tipster’s 911 call led to the seizure of a semiautomatic mini-rifle and four dozen rounds of ammunition from a man with no license to possess either, Suffolk County District Attorney Daniel F. Conley said.

ALEXIS A. LABOY (D.O.B. 11/17/88) of South Boston was arraigned today for unlawful possession of a Calico M-100 and 48 rounds of .22 caliber ammunition. South Boston District Court Judge Michael Bolden imposed $20,000 cash bail.

Boston Police received a 911 call at about 8:20 last night from a person with information that there was a man with a gun who had exited a green Lexus and entered a black Dodge Durango near the intersection of Father Songin Way and Kemp Street. The Durango left the scene with both men inside. The man with the gun was described as being in his 30s, standing about 5’11, and having a medium build.

Boston Police responded to the scene, finding the Lexus but not the Dodge. Efforts to locate the suspect by broadcasting the car’s description were unsuccessful, but officers and detectives took up covert positions in the area of the Lexus.

About an hour and a half later, police observed the Lexus’ taillights illuminate as if someone had remotely unlocked it. They then watched as Laboy – who met the general description provided by the tipster – approached the car and lifted its hatchback to rummage through a large bag.

Boston Police approached Laboy, who allegedly reached inside the left upper side of his jacket despite the officers’ orders to place his hands by his side. One detective moved to secure Laboy and immediately felt a long, heavy object inside. That object, which was tossed away from Laboy, later turned out to be the Calico M-100 with its shoulder stock removed.

The firearm was partially wrapped in a plastic shopping bag within which was a second bag containing the ammunition. Laboy did not have a license to possess either and he was taken into custody.

Laboy was represented by the Committee for Public Counsel Services. He will return to court on Jan. 29.
