Trial To Start In Group Attack That Killed Teen

Jury selection is expected to begin today for the trial of four defendants charged with murdering 16-year-old Terrance Jacobs in broad daylight in Dorchester three years ago.

PAUL GOODE, a.k.a. PAUL JONES (D.O.B. 1/9/83), of Dorchester; MARKEESE MITCHELL (D.O.B. 4/9/91) of Brockton; PEDRO ORTIZ (D.O.B. 8/8/79) of Dorchester; and TERRANCE PABON (D.O.B. 1/22/90) of Dorchester are all charged with murder for the May 22, 2007, beating and stabbing that took Jacobs’ life on Havelock Street.

RICHARD ALLEN (D.O.B. 3/23/87) of Dorchester has already pleaded guilty to being an accessory to Jacobs’ death.

Evidence suggests that sometime around 7 p.m. on the evening of May 22, the defendants told Jacobs’ friends to bring him to the area of Havelock and Wilcox Streets to confront him about a prior dispute. Jacobs’ friends, including Allen, obliged. Jacobs believed he would be engaging in a fair fight, prosecutors say.

Instead, Jacobs was quickly surrounded and beaten by the group before breaking free and running into traffic on Blue Hill Avenue. Prosecutors say the defendants chased him back onto Havelock Street, threw him to the ground, and stabbed him repeatedly.

Boston Police and emergency medical technicians responded to the area shortly before 8:00 to find Jacobs suffering from multiple stab wounds. He was rushed to Boston Medical Center, where doctors pronounced him dead of his injuries.

Assistant District Attorney Mark Hallal of the Suffolk DA’s Homicide Unit is prosecuting the case with Assistant District Attorney Stacie Moeser. Paula Connor is the assigned victim-witness advocate.

Goode is represented by attorney Scott Curtis, Mitchell is represented by attorney Elliot Weinstein, Ortiz is represented by attorney Michael Doolin, and Pabon is represented by attorney Stephen Neyman.

Judge Judith Fabricant is presiding in courtroom 817 of Suffolk Superior Court. Empanelment is expected to last several days, with opening statements and testimony tentatively expected to begin on April 20.
