Trio Indicted for October Murder, Due in Court Tomorrow

BOSTON, Feb. 28, 2017—Three Dorchester men are expected to be arraigned tomorrow following their indictments for murder in the fatal shooting of 41-year-old Shawn Borden last year, Assistant District Attorney Daniel F. Conley said.

TYSHAWN SANDERS (D.O.B. 1/31/98), TYSHAWN CUMMINGS (D.O.B. 2/21/95), and JAMARI MANNING (D.O.B. 4/1/95) are expected to be arraigned tomorrow morning in Suffolk Superior Court after a Suffolk County grand jury returned indictments Feb. 15 charging each in connection with the Oct. 18 shooting that claimed Borden’s life a week later.  Each faces charges of first-degree murder, unlawful possession of a firearm, and carrying a loaded firearm; Sanders faces additional charges of unlawful possession of a firearm and carrying a loaded firearm after he was found with a different gun on Nov. 4.

According to prosecutors, Borden and members of his family were outdoors in the area of Dorchester Avenue on the afternoon of Oct. 18, when a gunman approached on foot and fired multiple shots, striking Borden.  He died at a hospital on Oct. 25.

Prosecutors allege that Manning drove a rental vehicle to the area with Cummings and Sanders, circling the block just prior to the shooting.  Sanders allegedly exited the vehicle at the corner of Mather Street and Dorchester Avenue and walked toward Borden’s location, where he opened fire.  He then fled to the waiting rental vehicle.

Surveillance camera images, GPS data, and other evidence place the three men in the area of the shooting at the time it occurred, prosecutors said. Sanders faces additional firearm charges stemming from his arrest Nov. 4 after Boston Police stopped the vehicle he was in for traffic violations and found Sanders to be in possession of a loaded firearm.  He has remained in custody since his arrest.  Manning and Cummings were arrested Dec. 16 on warrants charging them with Borden’s murder.

The grand jury proceedings resulting in indictments were led by Assistant District Attorney Catherine Ham.  Arraignment will take place tomorrow in the Magistrate’s Session in Suffolk Superior Court.
