Two Charged with Firearms Offenses after Search Warrants on Fayston Street

BOSTON, June 3, 2013—Two Dorchester men were held on high bail today after police obtained separate search warrants and recovered firearms from their residences, Suffolk County District Attorney Daniel F. Conley said today.

SEAN GOODE (D.O.B. 6/5/81) is charged with two counts of unlawful possession of a firearm, three counts of unlawful possession of ammunition, and a single charge of possessing a firearm with a defaced serial number.  JEMEL LOVE (D.O.B. 2/10/79) was arraigned on charges of unlawful possession of a firearm, unlawful possession of ammunition, and improper storage of a firearm.  He was also issued a citation for possession of a Class D substance.

Assistant District Attorney Brian Brodigan requested each defendant be held on $25,000 bail with the conditions each submit to GPS monitoring and abide by a curfew.  Judge Michael Coyne set bail at $100,000 for both Goode and Love and declined to impose the requested conditions.

According to prosecutors, Boston Police officers executing a search warrant at Goode’s Fayston Street home discovered a digital scale, plastic baggies with marijuana residue, 28 spent 9mm rounds, and four live 9mm rounds.  Inside a safe, officers found a Lorcin .380 handgun with a defaced serial number loaded with four rounds of ammunition, a Smith and Wesson 9mm with one round in the chamber and two in the magazine, a box containing .40 caliber ammunition, an empty magazine, and a black holster, prosecutors said.

Goode previously held a Class C firearm license, which allows for the possession of rifles, shotguns, mace, and ammunition.  That license is not currently active, however, and would not allow for the possession of the guns found by police, prosecutors said.

Goode, a City of Boston street worker who was at work when the search warrant was executed, was arrested the same day.

Love and two women were present at Love’s apartment, also on Fayston Street, when police arrived but officers were forced to breach the front door of the building and of the apartment in order to gain entry shortly before noon Friday, prosecutors said.

Inside Love’s bedroom, police discovered a Japanese Arisaka 6.5MM sawed-off rifle, 10 live rounds of ammunition, and a bag containing marijuana, according to prosecutors.  Love then pointed out to police where the firearm and drugs were stored, allegedly telling police that he had found the gun while cleaning his backyard, prosecutors said.  At the time, the backyard was overgrown with weeds and grass and cluttered with debris.

Goode is represented by Aaron Lazar.  He will return to court July 11.  Love is represented by Samuel Weiner.  He will return to court July 1.
