Two Due in Court After Job Site Assault, Cover-Up

BOSTON, Jan. 2, 2018— A Berkeley man faces arraignment tomorrow after he seriously injured a co-worker at a Boston construction site and enlisted a colleague to cover up the assault, Suffolk County District Attorney Daniel F. Conley said.

KEVIN MEDEIROS (D.O.B. 8/19/61) of Berkeley will be arraigned tomorrow in Suffolk Superior Court on charges of aggravated assault and battery, witness intimidation, and tampering with evidence.  His co-defendant, JEAN ROCK BEAULIEU (D.O.B. 6/19/89) of Salem, N.H., will be arraigned in the same court tomorrow on charges of accessory after the fact to aggravated assault and battery and witness intimidation.

A Suffolk County grand jury on Dec. 20 returned the indictments against the men in connection with a May 8 assault that left the 57-year-old victim with a traumatic brain injury.

On the date of the assault, Medeiros was working as the nighttime site supervisor at a Copley Place construction site when he and another employee – who was showing signs of intoxication – became involved in a verbal altercation.  During the argument, Medeiros allegedly punched the victim in the face, causing him to fall backward and strike his head on concrete.  Medeiros and a second supervisor, Beaulieu, then moved the unresponsive victim’s body and told another worker that he had slipped and fallen, prosecutors said.  Their actions, however, were captured by a security camera.

The victim remained in a coma for five days following the assault and suffered a fractured skull and facial bones, internal bleeding, and traumatic brain injury.

Assistant District Attorney Lynn Feigenbaum of the DA’s Senior Trial Unit led the grand jury investigation resulting in charges against Medeiros and Beaulieu.  Jennifer Sears is the DA’s assigned victim-witness advocate.  Arraignment is expected tomorrow morning in the Magistrate’s Session of Suffolk Superior Court.
