Two Held in Separate Revere Homicides

BOSTON, Dec. 14, 2015— Two men were ordered held without bail today in connection with separate murders in the City of Revere, Suffolk County District Attorney Daniel F. Conley said.

MICHAEL DeLEON (D.O.B. 4/23/79) of Lynn was arraigned in Chelsea District Court on charges he shot and killed Peter Pitari, 66, and Cristy Johnson, 35, both of Revere, and seriously wounded a 38-year-old man.

Assistant District Attorney David Fredette told the court that Revere Police responded to 70 Waite St. shortly after 8:30 p.m. Thursday and located the three victims suffering life-threatening gunshot wounds.  Pitari and Johnson died from those injuries at area hospitals; the surviving victim is expected to survive.

Revere Police and State troopers assigned to Conley’s office identified DeLeon as the Waite Street gunman through witness statements and surveillance video, Fredette said.  DeLeon was taken into custody Friday.  The investigation remains active.

Also today, JUAN “JUANITO” GAVIRIA (D.O.B. 5/16/97) of Revere was ordered held without bail at his arraignment in Suffolk Superior Court in connection with the Jan. 23 shooting death of 18-year-old Andres Jaramillo.  A Suffolk County grand jury on Friday returned indictments charging Gaviria with first-degree murder, armed assault with intent to murder, unlawful possession of a firearm, and carrying a loaded firearm in connection with the Jan. 23 shooting.  A second man charged in the killing, LUIS “LITO” URBAEZ (D.O.B. 3/1/85), remains at large.

Assistant District Attorney Mark Zanini told the court that, shortly before midnight on Jan. 22, Gaviria and Urbaez were searching in Revere for a teen who had been involved in a physical altercation with Gaviria earlier that day.  They located the teen – along with Jaramillo – in Jaramillo’s Honda Accord parked on Garfield Avenue at approximately 2:00 a.m. on Jan. 23.  Gaviria and Urbaez pulled up alongside the vehicle and opened fire on the two occupants.  Jaramillo was struck and killed.

Zanini told the court that witness statements, surveillance video, cell phone records, and other evidence link Gaviria and Urbaez to the murder.

Anyone with information on Urbaez’ location is asked to contact Revere Police at 781-284-1212 or the Suffolk County State Police Detective Unit at 617-727-8817.

DeLeon is represented by Jack Cunha.  He returns to court Jan. 20. Gaviria is represented by Stephen Weymouth.  He returns to court Jan. 14.  Katherine Moran and Ilana Wixted are the DA’s assigned victim-witness advocates.
