Two Held in Unrelated Homicides in Chelsea, Dorchester

BOSTON, Oct. 21, 2014—A Chelsea man was ordered held without bail in the fatal shooting of 35-year-old Katerin “Catherine” Gomez, and a Quincy man was similarly held in the stabbing death of 31-year-old Gerald Williamson, Suffolk County District Attorney Daniel F. Conley said.

HECTOR RAMIRES (D.O.B. 10/23/93) was arraigned in Chelsea District Court on a murder charge stemming from Gomez’ homicide this weekend. At the request of Assistant District Attorney David Fredette, Judge Matthew Nestor also revoked Ramires’ bail on two unrelated street robberies he allegedly committed with others earlier this year.

Also today, EDGARDO CLARK (D.O.B. 5/25/85) was arraigned in Dorchester Municipal Court on a murder charge for Williamson’s Oct. 16 homicide.  At the request of Assistant District Attorney Ian Polumbaum, Judge James Coffey ordered Clark held without bail.

Prosecutors say Gomez was not the intended target of the shooting but was standing inside a Shawmut Street residence when she was struck by gunfire that erupted outside just after midnight on Saturday.

Since that time, Chelsea Police detectives and State Police assigned to Conley’s office have been gathering evidence related to the shooting. Based on surveillance imagery, witness statements, and other evidence, prosecutors said, Ramires was identified as having pulled and fired a handgun during an altercation between two groups on Shawmut Street.

The single shot from that handgun struck Gomez, who was inside and completely unconnected to the conflict. She was fatally injured and emergency medical technicians pronounced her dead at the scene.

In the Dorchester case, prosecutors say, Williamson and Clark were involved in a confrontation inside a Chinese restaurant in the area of Bowdoin and Olney streets shortly before 7:30 p.m. Thursday.  Clark allegedly followed the victim out of the restaurant and started a physical altercation, during which Clark pulled out a knife.  Even after Williamson attempted to retreat, Clark used the knife to stab him in the neck, prosecutors said.

Williamson was transported to Boston Medical Center, where he died of his injuries. Clark allegedly fled the scene, abandoning the knife and a hat that will be tested for possible forensic evidence.  He was identified through surveillance images and witness statements gathered by Boston Police homicide detectives.

Ramires was arrested last night at Chelsea Police headquarters. He was represented today by attorney Kelli Porges and will return to court on Nov. 20. Katherine Moran is the DA’s assigned victim-witness advocate.

Clark surrendered himself to Boston Police yesterday on a warrant that issued Friday. He was represented today by attorney Brad Bailey and will return to court on Dec. 1. Timothy Munzert is the DA’s assigned victim-witness advocate.
