VICTIMS IDENTIFIED IN DEADLY REVERE CRASH

Suffolk County District Attorney Daniel F. Conley’s office today identified the two teenaged passengers who died when their friend’s sport-utility vehicle crashed near Copeland Circle shortly before 11:20 yesterday morning.

Kelly Ann Barber, 19, of East Weymouth was behind the wheel of her mother’s 2000 Mitsubishi Montero when, investigators believe, it rolled over, struck the right guardrail, and traveled across Route 1 before striking a concrete barrier and coming to rest in the left travel lane. Barber was wearing a seat belt and survived the collision with injuries deemed serious but not life-threatening.

Of Barber’s four passengers, two died in the crash. They are identified as 16-year-old Erin Leary of Hull and 17-year-old Jason Foster of Ipswich. Leary was in the left rear passenger’s seat. She was wearing her seat belt. Foster was in the middle rear passenger’s seat and was not wearing a seat belt. Both died of massive trauma sustained in the crash and were pronounced dead at the scene.

“Our hearts go out to their families at a time of unimaginable sorrow,” Conley said.

A 17-year-old male from New Hampshire was in the right rear passenger’s seat and a 17-year-old male Weymouth was in the front passenger’s seat. Both were wearing seat belts and, like Barber, were transported by ambulance to Massachusetts General Hospital with serious but not life-threatening injuries.

The cause of the crash and the circumstances surrounding it remain under investigation. Assistant District Attorney Craig Iannini responded to the scene yesterday along with State Police detectives assigned to Conley’s office, who undertake all death investigations on state roadways within Suffolk County.

No decisions have yet been made with regard to potential criminal charges, Conley said.

Also investigating the incident are members of the State Police Collision Analysis and Reconstruction Section, the State Police Crime Scene Services Section, and the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner.
