Woman Arraigned in Crash that Killed Pedestrian

BOSTON, Jan. 13, 2016— A Dorchester woman was arraigned today in connection with the hit-and-run crash that killed 78-year-old Silvia Acosta, Suffolk County District Attorney Daniel F. Conley said.

JAIDYS PIMENTAL-PENA (D.O.B. 3/2/91) was arraigned today in West Roxbury Municipal Court on charges of motor vehicle homicide by reckless operation and leaving the scene of an accident causing personal injury or death.  Judge Mary Ann Driscoll set bail in the amount of $1,000 and ordered Pimental-Pena not to drive for the pendency of the case.

Assistant District Attorney Caitlin Fitzgerald of the DA’s Major Felony Bureau told the court that Boston Police responded to a 911 call for a pedestrian struck by a vehicle in the area of 4593 Washington St. in Roslindale.  She was transported to Brigham and Women’s Hospital, where she succumbed to her injuries.

Witnesses told police that Acosta was crossing Washington Street on a crosswalk when she was struck by a vehicle that then fled the area.  An investigation revealed that the driver of the vehicle was Pimental-Pena, prosecutors said.

Pimental-Pena later returned to the location where the victim was fatally struck.  During a post-Miranda interview with police, she allegedly made statements admitting that she was aware she had struck a person but did not stop.

Police secured the gray 1999 Pontiac sedan believed to be involved in the crash.

Pimental-Pena was represented by Neil Madden.  She returns to court Feb. 22.
