BOSTON, Nov. 29, 2013—Suffolk County DA Dan Conley and Middlesex DA Marian Ryan this week brought prosecutors, victim advocates, and others together for a day-long training seminar in Boston that they hope will help interrupt the cycle of domestic violence and identify defendants whose abuse may become lethal.

The main speaker at the Nov. 25 “DV and the DA” event was Dr. Jacquelyn Campbell. A nationally and internationally respected authority on intimate partner violence, Campbell is the author of seven books and more than 200 articles on DV and related topics, has been the primary investigator in numerous federally-funded research grants, and co-chaired the steering committee for the World Health Organization’s Multi-County Study on Violence Against Women and Women’s Health. more »

BOSTON, Nov. 27, 2013—The woman accused of killing 7-year-old Brianna Rosales while driving drunk was ordered held without bail at her arraignment this morning, Suffolk County District Attorney Daniel F. Conley said.

OLIVIA MORA (D.O.B. 7/19/77) was arraigned in Dorchester District Court on charges of motor vehicle homicide while operating under the influence, operating under the influence causing serious bodily injury, and operating a motor vehicle with an expired registration. At the request of Assistant District Attorney Masai King, Judge Jonathan Tynes ordered Mora held without bail. more »

BOSTON, Nov. 26, 2013—Suffolk County District Attorney Daniel F. Conley and Acting Boston Police Commissioner William B. Evans today identified the alleged gunman in the shooting that left Ana Cruz, Felix Garcia, and Brian Tirado dead at a house party in Roxbury this summer.

The Suffolk County Grand Jury late Friday returned indictments charging JAEL ROMERO (D.O.B. 5/30/90) with three counts of second-degree murder and unlawful possession of a firearm for the June 22 incident at 153 Intervale St. Romero is currently held on open, unrelated charges in Bristol County and a warrant has been lodged to hold him in the event that he posts bail in that case. more »

BOSTON, Nov. 25, 2013—An off-duty State trooper is accused of operating under the influence of alcohol and illicit drugs when he collided with a marked State Police cruiser that in turn struck a civilian vehicle, Suffolk County District Attorney Daniel F. Conley said today.

SHAWN D’AMATO (D.O.B. 5/14/71) was arraigned in his bed at Massachusetts General Hospital on charges of operating under the influence of alcohol, operating under the influence of drugs, negligent operation of a motor vehicle, and failure to change lanes for an emergency vehicle. Assistant District Attorney Christopher Henry recommended that he be held on $2,000 cash bail and be ordered not to drive while the case is pending. Chelsea District Court Judge Benjamin Barnes released him on his own recognizance but imposed the no-driving order. more »

BOSTON, Nov. 25, 2013—A Hyde Park man already facing one drunk driving charge is now charged with another in which he allegedly crashed a pick-up truck, killing his passenger, then fled the scene and left her dead, Suffolk County District Attorney Daniel F. Conley said.

GREGORY COLANDRIS (D.O.B. 4/10/91), whose driver’s license is suspended, was arraigned today in West Roxbury District Court on charges of operating under the influence and leaving the scene of an accident causing death. Assistant District Attorney Benjamin Megrian recommended that he be held on $150,000 cash bail on this case and that his bail on an earlier West Roxbury drunk driving case and a Brockton assault and battery case be revoked. Judge Debra Shopteese imposed $50,000 and the revocation orders. more »

BOSTON, Nov. 20, 2013—A repeat drunk driver from Canton was arraigned this week after he struck another vehicle while operating under the influence of alcohol, District Attorney Daniel F. Conley said.

HECTOR TOLEDO (D.O.B. 4/24/64) was arraigned Monday in West Roxbury District Court on charges of operating under the influence of alcohol as a fourth offense and possession of an open container of alcohol in a motor vehicle. Judge Robert McKenna granted Assistant District Attorney Christopher Aiello’s request that bail be set in the amount of $5,000 and revoked Toledo’s bail in an open case out of Boston Municipal Court in which he is charged with assault and battery with a dangerous weapon and assault and battery, as well as a second case out of Dedham District Court charging assault and battery.  He was additionally ordered to remain alcohol-free. more »

BOSTON, Nov. 19, 2013—A Suffolk Superior Court jury today convicted the Boston man who fatally shot 32-year-old Carl Bonnie during a 2009 drug deal, District Attorney Daniel F. Conley said.

After about eight days of testimony and almost two days of deliberations, jurors found TREVOR “SPECIALIST” HIGGINS (D.O.B. 10/22/74) guilty of second-degree murder and unlawful possession of a shotgun in connection with Bonnie’s Nov. 12, 2009 shooting death.  Sentencing will take place Friday, at which time Judge Judith Fabricant is expected to impose the mandatory sentence for second-degree murder of life in prison with the possibility of parole.  more »

BOSTON, Nov. 19, 2013—A Pembroke man was arraigned last week for allegedly driving drunk and pointing a freshly-purchased, fully-loaded handgun at other drivers in the Tip O’Neil Tunnel, Suffolk County District Attorney Daniel F. Conley said.

GUY MILLER III (D.O.B. 7/31/69) was arraigned Friday in the Boston Municipal Court with operating under the influence as a second offense, assault with a dangerous weapon, carrying a firearm while intoxicated, improper storage of a large capacity firearm, and possession of an open container of alcohol in a motor vehicle. Miller was not charged with unlawfully possessing the firearm because he had a valid license to carry it. more »

BOSTON, Nov. 18, 2013—A South Boston man and his teenaged son were formally charged with murder today for allegedly taking part in the violent attack yesterday that left 29-year-old Edwin Santos dead, Suffolk County District Attorney Daniel F. Conley said.

ANGEL SANCHEZ, 16, was arraigned this afternoon in South Boston District Court for his role in the fatal beating and stabbing. Though he is a Juvenile, Sanchez’ case is open to the public because he is charged with murder. At the request of Assistant District Attorney Mark Zanini, chief of the DA’s Juvenile Unit, Judge Michael Bolden ordered him held without bail. more »

BOSTON, Nov. 18, 2013—A Newton man was arraigned today on charges he stabbed a bar employee after a failed attempt to cut the line at a downtown bar, District Attorney Daniel F. Conley said.

PETER DAMELIO (D.O.B. 9/11/75) was arraigned in Boston Municipal Court on charges of assault and battery with a dangerous weapon and assault and battery.  Assistant District Attorney Ian Leson requested that bail for Damelio be set at $25,000 and that his bail be revoked in an open case out of Somerville District Court charging him with drug offenses.  Judge Mark Hart Summerville set bail in the amount of $15,000 and revoked Damelio’s bail. more »

BOSTON, Nov. 18, 2013—The state’s highest court last week reversed a decision by a Boston Municipal Court judge who vacated a defendant’s guilty pleas more than a decade after accepting them, Suffolk County District Attorney Daniel F. Conley said.

The Supreme Judicial Court On Nov. 12 vacated a 2011 order by Boston Municipal Court Judge Raymond Dougan, Jr., allowing ANGEL CARTAGENA (D.O.B. 3/21/53) to withdraw his 1996 guilty pleas to two counts of larceny over $250, two counts of uttering, and one count of receiving stolen property. The Massachusetts Appeals Court last year similarly reversed the order, but Cartagena appealed that decision to the SJC, which remanded the case for further findings by the plea judge. more »

BOSTON, Nov. 18, 2013—The man who pulled a gun on Joseph Morante, Jr., during a July 31 robbery pulled the trigger even though he faced no resistance from the store clerk, Suffolk County District Attorney Daniel F. Conley said.

ELOSKO BROWN (D.O.B. 2/23/86) of Brockton was arraigned in Roxbury District Court today on charges of murder, armed robbery, and unlawful possession of a firearm, all in connection with Morante’s shooting death outside the Roxbury electronics store where he worked. At the request of Assistant District Attorney Edmond Zabin, he was ordered held without bail pending trial. more »

BOSTON, Nov. 15, 2013—More than 20 men and women were arrested in Boston and other municipalities last night and this morning after a lengthy wiretap investigation targeting a sophisticated drug trafficking network, Suffolk County District Attorney Daniel F. Conley and Acting Boston Police Commissioner William Evans said today.

Warrant sweeps based on evidence developed by the DA’s Narcotics Unit and Boston Police Special Investigations Unit began last night and continued today in Dorchester, Roxbury, Beacon Hill, and Mattapan – but also in Abington, Attleboro, Duxbury, Quincy, and Salem, officials said. more »

BOSTON, Nov. 13, 2013—A Quincy attorney was arraigned on drug charges today for allegedly bringing a controlled substance to a person at Chelsea District Court, Suffolk County District Attorney Daniel F. Conley said.

MICHAEL LUSTIG (D.O.B. 7/13/68) was arraigned on charges of possession of a Class B substance with intent to distribute and conspiracy to violate the state’s drug laws for allegedly bringing Suboxone tablets – prescribed for opiate addiction but also sold and used illicitly – to court today with the alleged intention of delivering them to ALICIA DEMARCO (D.O.B. 1/1/86). BOSTON, Nov. 8, 2013—A Marlboro man was charged with kidnapping and related charges yesterday for allegedly forcing a Revere woman into his Jaguar at the point of a gun, District Attorney Daniel F. Conley said.

JEAN DORESCA (D.O.B. 10/1/87) was arraigned in Chelsea District Court on charges of armed kidnapping, assault and battery with a dangerous weapon, witness intimidation, and a violating a municipal ordinance violation against carrying a knife with a blade longer than 2½ inches.  Assistant District Attorney Michael Lafleur requested that bail be set in the amount of $20,000 and that an order be entered protecting the victim’s personal identifying information.  Judge Benjamin Barnes declined to impose monetary bail and released Doresca on his own recognizance with orders to stay away and have no contact with the victim. He did not issue the protective order. more »

BOSTON, Nov. 8, 2013—A Medford man was arraigned yesterday for allegedly assaulting an MBTA bus driver in October, leading to a collision that damaged three parked cars, Suffolk County District Attorney Daniel F. Conley said.

DOUGLAS BERGERON (D.O.B. 5/17/81), who has three open criminal cases in as many courthouses, is now charged with a fourth: an October incident on a Route 117 bus for which he is charged with assault and battery on a public employee, interfering with a bus driver, and three counts of wanton destruction of property. more »

BOSTON, Nov. 7, 2013—A Charlestown man has admitted to possessing multiple specimens of child pornography on his laptop computer and portable storage devices seized by Boston Police last year, Suffolk County District Attorney Daniel F. Conley said today.

JAMES MANSFIELD (D.O.B. 5/10/65) pleaded guilty Monday to the four counts of possession of child pornography for which he was indicted in February of this year. Those indictments, sought by the chief of the DA’s Child Protection Unit, doubled the number of charges he originally faced after his arrest in October 2012. more »

BOSTON, Nov. 4, 2013—Things went from bad to worse for a South End man arraigned today after his decision to show off for his friends – and a State trooper behind him at the red light he ran – led to the discovery of a loaded handgun in the trunk of his car, Suffolk County District Attorney Daniel F. Conley said.

HECTOR L. DELVALLE (D.O.B. 9/4/84) was arraigned today in East Boston District Court on charges of unlawful possession of a firearm, unlawful possession of ammunition, carrying a loaded firearm without a license, receiving a firearm with a defaced serial number, possession of a Class E substance, negligent operation of a motor vehicle, operating a motor vehicle with a suspended license, and the civil offenses of failing to stop at a red light, failing to wear a seatbelt, and possessing less than an ounce of marijuana. Assistant District Attorney Janine D’Amico requested that Delvalle’s bail be set at $10,000 with conditions that he abide by a curfew and submit to GPS monitoring. Judge Roberto Ronquillo, Jr., set bail in the amount of $7,500 and imposed the recommended conditions of release. more »
