BOSTON, February 28, 2018— After spending more than 20 years on the run, a former Dorchester man has been found guilty of sexually assaulting two children in the 1990s, Suffolk County District Attorney Daniel F. Conley said.

A Suffolk Superior Court jury this afternoon found JOHN J. HARTIN (D.O.B. 1/22/70) guilty of five counts of rape of a child – indictments he fled after they were returned by a grand jury in 1993. He faces sentencing Tuesday. more »

BOSTON, Feb. 26, 2018—A Randolph man was arraigned today on various charges related to a chaotic scene on Route 93 this weekend and the independent investigation into a State trooper’s firearm discharge is ongoing, Suffolk County District Attorney Daniel F. Conley said.

ADERITO MONTEIRO, 28, of Randolph was arraigned in the Boston Municipal Court today on charges of negligent operation of a motor vehicle, failure to stop for police, disorderly conduct, driving an uninsured all-terrain vehicle, and various civil infractions. Judge Eleanor Sinnott set bail at $2,000 and ordered him not to drive without a license. more »

BOSTON, February 26, 2018— As the man who abducted and raped her more than 13 years ago was sentenced to a lengthy prison term today, one victim declared she is neither victim nor survivor but “a warrior.”

DWAYNE McNAIR (D.O.B. 1/30/81), convicted Jan. 12 of eight counts of aggravated rape and two counts of armed robbery, faced sentencing today before Suffolk Superior Court Judge Linda Giles. Assistant District Attorney David Deakin, chief of District Attorney Daniel F. Conley’s Family Protection and Sexual Assault Bureau, recommended a sentence of 30 to 40 years in state prison. Giles imposed a term of 16 years in prison to be followed by 10 years of probation. more »

BOSTON, Feb. 23, 2018—A meticulous joint investigation by Boston Police and Suffolk prosecutors into retaliatory gun violence has led to the arrests of two alleged rivals from feuding Boston street gangs, Police Commissioner William B. Evans and District Attorney Daniel F. Conley said.

Boston Police today arrested IMRAHOTEP WALLACE (D.O.B. 6/11/91) of Allston on a warrant charging him with armed assault with intent to murder and assault and battery with a dangerous weapon for allegedly taking part in a shooting in Roxbury last month. He will be arraigned later today at Roxbury Municipal Court.

Yesterday, Boston Police arrested MOSES JACOBS (D.O.B. 8/7/97) of Dorchester on a warrant charging him with armed assault with intent to murder, attempted assault and battery by discharging a firearm, and unlawful possession of ammunition for firing at a person in a vehicle on Trotter Court in a different encounter earlier this month. more »

BOSTON, Feb. 22, 2018—An MBTA trolley operator has been charged with fraudulently collecting workers’ compensation and disability insurance after allegedly paying an associate to attack him on the job in 2016, MBTA Transit Police Chief Kenneth Green and Suffolk County District Attorney Daniel F. Conley said today.

The Suffolk County Grand Jury yesterday returned indictments charging THOMAS LUCEY (D.O.B. 10/21/71) of Saugus with two counts of insurance fraud and single counts of workers’ compensation fraud, misleading a police investigation, and perjury. more »

BOSTON, Feb. 21, 2018—A second defendant in the homicide of 21-year-old Shaquille Browder was held without bail at his arraignment today, Suffolk County District Attorney Daniel F. Conley said.

RALPH BROWN (D.O.B. 3/10/74) was apprehended by the Boston Police Fugitive Apprehension Unit in Holbrook this morning on warrants approved by Suffolk prosecutors on Feb. 13. He was transported to Dorchester Municipal Court, where he was formally charged with murder and unlawful possession of a firearm.

Assistant District Attorney Catherine Ham of the DA’s Homicide Unit told the court that Brown participated jointly with KYLE WILLIAMS (D.O.B. 4/14/86) to commit the homicide in broad daylight at a parking lot near Columbia Road and Washington Street – one of the city’s busiest intersections. more »

BOSTON, Feb. 16, 2018—The man who allegedly shot and killed 37-year-old Tarek Mroue on Winthrop Street this week was held without bail at his arraignment in Roxbury Municipal Court today, Suffolk County District Attorney Daniel F. Conley said.

TYRONE WORRELL (D.O.B. 7/5/78) of Dorchester is accused of shooting Mroue, killing him, on the evening of Feb. 14. Boston Police arrested Worrell shortly after the homicide. Early the next morning, he represented that he had swallowed a quantity of heroin. Though his belongings had previously been secured, he was hospitalized for observation in an abundance of caution and then released for arraignment. more »

BOSTON, Feb. 16, 2018—The parents of 17-year-old Ryan Morrissey spoke at a sentencing hearing today for the man convicted of his 2014 murder, mourning the loss of “a giant piece of our lives that can never be replaced.”

JULIO BAEZ (D.O.B. 2/28/91) was sentenced to the mandatory term of life in prison without the possibility of parole following his conviction yesterday for first-degree murder. At the request of Suffolk County District Attorney Daniel F. Conley’s office, Judge Janet Sanders sentenced him to a concurrent term of 18-20 years for the non-fatal shooting of Morrissey’s friend, then 19, during the same incident. more »

BOSTON, Feb. 16, 2018—Chelsea and State police and fire investigators combing the scene of an apparent brush fire found some signs of accidental ignition last night but have not made any final determinations, officials said today.

At about 6:40 pm, the Chelsea Fire Department and State Police assigned to the Revere barracks responded to the area of Route 16 near Webster Avenue for a fire at an unpaved area abutting the roadway. On extinguishing the blaze, firefighters observed what appeared to be a dead body and made the standard notifications for a death investigation. more »

BOSTON, Feb. 15, 2018—A Suffolk Superior Court jury today convicted a Charlestown man of first-degree murder and related offenses for his role in the 2014 murder of 17-year-old Ryan Morrissey and acquitted two others accused of also taking part.

Jurors deliberated for about six full days before convicting JULIO BAEZ (D.O.B. 2/28/91) of first-degree murder, armed assault with intent to murder, and assault and battery with a dangerous weapon causing serious bodily injury. He faces a mandatory life term at a hearing scheduled for 11:00 tomorrow morning. more »

BOSTON, Feb. 14, 2018—One of the men who allegedly took part in the homicide of 21-year-old Shaquille Browder was linked to the crime through video footage and vehicle rental records, Suffolk County District Attorney Daniel F. Conley said.

KYLE L. WILLIAMS (D.O.B. 4/14/86) was arraigned today on one count of murder in connection with the Jan. 11 shooting that claimed Browder’s life. Judge Serge Georges ordered him held without bail on the murder and additionally held him pending a hearing to determine whether he violated the terms of his probation on a 2011 extortion and unarmed robbery conviction for which he served six years. more »

BOSTON, Feb. 14, 2018—A man was sentenced to prison yesterday after admitting that he coerced three Boston-area girls he met online into sending him sexual photographs – the first conviction in Suffolk County for using threats through social media to coerce explicit imagery from a victim, District Attorney Daniel F. Conley said.

HECTOR ACEVEDO (D.O.B. 5/11/90) of Roxbury pleaded guilty yesterday to posing or exhibiting a child in a state of nudity or sexual conduct; possession of child pornography; distributing child pornography; and distributing obscene matter to a minor. Acevedo also pleaded guilty to attempted extortion and human trafficking of a minor, reflecting the use of threats to coerce the underage victims into providing him with nude photos. more »

BOSTON, Feb. 9, 2018—The alleged driver who crashed into another vehicle, badly injuring its occupant, was arraigned on a felony drunk driving charge today, Suffolk County District Attorney Daniel F. Conley said.

DOMENIC COLUMBO (D.O.B. 11/22/78) of West Roxbury, who is a Boston Police officer, walked into court on a summons arraignment for causing serious bodily injury while operating under the influence. Judge James Stanton released Columbo on his own recognizance, ordering him to stay away from the victim’s family. more »

More Than 77lbs of Fentanyl, Heroin, Cocaine Seized in “Operation High Hopes”

BOSTON, Feb. 8, 2018—Suffolk County District Attorney Daniel F. Conley, Boston Police Superintendent in Chief William Gross, Special Agent in Charge Michael J. Ferguson of the Drug Enforcement Administration’s New England Division, Braintree Police Chief Paul Shastany, and Randolph Police Chief William Pace today announced the results of Operation High Hopes, one of the longest, most far-reaching, and most successful state wiretap investigations in Massachusetts history.

The investigation dismantled two Boston-area drug trafficking organizations and led to the seizure of some 77 pounds of various narcotics – including more than 30 pounds of fentanyl, an opiate so powerful that mere milligrams can be lethal – and some $300,000 in alleged drug money. The fentanyl, heroin, cocaine, and opiate tablets are believed to have come from the Sinaloa Cartel in Mexico. more »

Victim’s Kin “Remember Him Vividly, Miss Him Deeply, and Keep His Spirit Alive”

 

BOSTON,—The Brighton man responsible for the drunk driving crash that killed 24-year-old Dillon Carter and seriously injured a second man was sentenced to a state prison term today, Suffolk County District Attorney Daniel F. Conley said.

CRAIG LAWLOR (D.O.B. 6/4/92) faced sentencing today before Suffolk Superior Court Judge Linda Giles, who during a jury-waived trial last month found Lawlor guilty of manslaughter by motor vehicle, motor vehicle homicide by operating under the influence of alcohol, and operating under the influence of alcohol causing serious bodily injury in connection with the fatal 2016 crash inside the Sumner Tunnel. 

Assistant District Attorney Caitlin Grasso had recommended a sentence of six to eight years in state prison, followed by 2 ½ years in the house of correction with six months to serve and the remainder suspended for two years.  Giles imposed a term of five to six years in state prison followed by 2 ½ years in the house of correction with six months to serve and the remainder suspended for a probationary period of two years.  During that time, Lawlor must remain drug- and alcohol-free, complete a substance abuse program, and perform 100 hours of community service.  more »

BOSTON, Feb. 2, 2018—The threat of gang violence and witness intimidation at a 2006 murder trial represented “exceptional circumstances” warranting the judge’s partial closure of the courtroom, the Supreme Judicial Court ruled today as it affirmed the defendant’s convictions for killing one man and leaving another paralyzed until his death years later, Suffolk County District Attorney Daniel F. Conley said.

The Supreme Judicial Court today upheld ODAIR FERNANDES’ convictions for first-degree murder, armed assault with intent to murder, and multiple firearms charges. Fernandes (D.O.B. 8/16/83) was convicted for his role in the April 28, 2003, shootings that claimed the life of Jose Daveiga, 22, in Boston’s South End and left Christopher Carvalho, then 24, paralyzed until his 2007 death at Lemuel Shattuck Hospital, where he was reliant upon machinery to provide oxygen. more »

BOSTON, February 1, 2018—Suffolk County District Attorney Dan Conley this morning honored 24 students at a Dorchester elementary school who completed his office’s comprehensive youth violence prevention program.

During a ceremony this morning, Conley presented certificates to 24 fifth graders at the Richard J. Murphy School who completed the Overcoming Violence curriculum after six weeks of interactive study and discussion.  He was joined at the event by members of his office and representatives of the Boston Police Department, the Suffolk County Sheriff’s Department, and the Boston Centers for Youth and Families. more »
