BOSTON, April 30, 2014—Two Boston men were convicted of first-degree murder today for the shooting death of 23-year-old Alfonso Rivas during a robbery, Suffolk County District Attorney Daniel F. Conley said.

After about three days of deliberations, a Suffolk Superior Court jury today found REGINALD HOLLEY (D.O.B. 11/22/89) of Dorchester and OASIS PRITCHETT (D.O.B. 10/5/90) of Roxbury guilty of first-degree murder, armed robbery, and unlawful possession of a firearm in connection with Rivas’ Oct. 17, 2012, murder in a Lyndhurst Street apartment.  Both men face the mandatory sentence for first-degree murder of life in prison without the possibility of parole when they are sentenced tomorrow by Judge Patrick Brady. more »

BOSTON, April 29, 2014—A thrice-convicted drunk driver was arraigned yesterday after Boston Police arrested him for allegedly driving drunk and engaging in sex for a fee, Suffolk County District Attorney Daniel F. Conley said.

PAUL GRIFFIN (D.O.B. 1/29/66) of West Roxbury was charged in Roxbury District Court with operating under the influence of liquor as a fourth offense, paying for sexual conduct, operating with a license suspended for OUI, operating without insurance, and a license plate violation.  He was released on his own recognizance. more »

BOSTON, April 28, 2014—Two men were arraigned in the Boston Municipal Court yesterday following their arrests by MBTA Transit Police for separate incidents in which one allegedly groped a woman and the other allegedly exposed himself, Suffolk County District Attorney Daniel F. Conley said.

ANTHONY PEPPE (D.O.B. 6/16/45), who listed a homeless shelter as his address, was charged yesterday with indecent assault and battery for allegedly groping a woman at Park Street station on April 8.  Assistant District Attorney Erica Brody requested bail be set at $10,000 and orders that Peppe stay away and have no contact with the victim, stay away from the location of the offense, and wear a GPS monitoring device in the event that he posts bail.  Judge Thomas Horgan imposed $5,000 bail and ordered Peppe to stay away from the location of the offense and GPS monitoring. more »

BOSTON, April 28, 2014—A Dorchester teen was arraigned in the Suffolk County Juvenile Court today after his indictment under the state’s youthful offender statute for the shooting death of his 9-year-old brother, District Attorney Daniel F. Conley said today.

JUANLY PEÑA, 14, of Dorchester was formally charged with manslaughter and unlawful possession of a firearm for the Feb. 7 shooting death of Janmarcos Peña, 9, in their Morton Street home. At the request of Assistant District Attorney Ian Polumbaum, Judge Terry Craven transferred the $50,000 cash bail imposed at his earlier arraignment as a juvenile to this case. more »

BOSTON, April 23, 2014—A breaking-and-entering suspect got more than he bargained for when the residents of the house he allegedly entered tackled him and held him for Revere Police, Suffolk County District Attorney Daniel F. Conley said.

ANTHONY PASCO (D.O.B. 1/18/65) of Chelsea was arraigned today in Chelsea District Court on charges of breaking and entering at night with intent to commit a felony, assault during the commission of an unarmed burglary, larceny over $250, malicious destruction of property over $250, assault and battery, and assault and battery with a dangerous weapon – a shod foot. more »

BOSTON, April 23, 2014—A student at the University of Massachusetts Boston was held on high bail today after his arraignment on charges that he called in two bomb threats to the school’s Dorchester campus within five days of one another, Suffolk County District Attorney Daniel F. Conley said.

DEAN BECKFORD (D.O.B. 11/7/84) of Somerville was formally charged with two counts of making a bomb threat. Judge Lisa Grant imposed $20,000 cash bail and, at prosecutors’ request, ordered that Beckford wear a GPSD device and surrender both of his passports to the court if he posts that amount. more »

BOSTON, April 23, 2014—Two men were arraigned today after a three-month grand jury investigation identified them as the assailants who kicked and beat a homeless man until a passerby shielded the victim’s body with her own, Suffolk County District Attorney Daniel F. Conley said.

CRAIG PARSONS (D.O.B. 4/24/91) of West Newton and ANTHONY VARRICHIONE (D.O.B. 9/6/90) of Medway were arraigned in Suffolk Superior Court today on indictments charging them both with aggravated assault and battery and aggravated assault and battery with a dangerous weapon. Parsons is additionally charged with violating the state’s witness intimidation statute in an attempt to stymie the investigation. more »

Roslindale native Katherine Moran, an 11-year veteran of the office now assigned to the DA’s Homicide Unit, received the Gerard D. Downing Advocate of the Year Award at the 20th annual Massachusetts Prosecutors Conference.  The event was held Thursday at the Seaport Hotel. more »

BOSTON, April 17, 2014—Chelsea Fire Chief Robert Better Jr., State Fire Marshal Stephen D. Coan, Chelsea Police Chief Brian Kyes, and Suffolk County District Attorney Daniel F. Conley today announced indictments against the Chelsea man who allegedly started a fire that injured two firefighters and left 18 people without a home.

NESTOR PEREZ (D.O.B. 11/6/93) was arraigned today in Suffolk Superior Court on a charge of arson of a dwelling and two counts each of wanton destruction of property over $250 and causing injury to a firefighter. Assistant District Attorney Nicholas Brandt requested that bail be set in the amount of $5,000.  Clerk Magistrate Connie Wong imposed $1,000 bail and ordered Perez to have no contact with any witnesses in the case. more »

BOSTON, April 16, 2014—A Wakefield man was held on high bail and ordered to undergo a mental health evaluation following his arraignment on charges that he claimed to have a “rice cooker” in a backpack he brought to Copley Square on the anniversary of bombs that killed three people there, Suffolk County District Attorney Daniel F. Conley said.

KEVIN EDSON (D.O.B. 11/2/88), a.k.a. KAYVON EDSON, who also claims a Mission Hill address, was arraigned in the Boston Municipal Court on charges of disturbing the peace, disorderly conduct, disturbing a public assembly, possession or use of a hoax device, and making a false bomb threat. The latter two charges carry up to five and up to 20 years in state prison upon conviction. more »

BOSTON, April 15, 2014—Three men were arraigned today for taking part in an unprovoked attack on a stranger Friday, District Attorney Daniel F. Conley said.

AYANLE MOHAMED (D.O.B. 1/1/90) of Charlestown, LIBAN DUALLE (D.O.B. 1/1/93) of Roxbury, and NUR HERSI (D.O.B. 1/1/91) of Roxbury were arraigned on charges of assault and battery and disorderly conduct in connection with the incident Friday in downtown Boston.  Mohamed is also charged with possession of Class B and D substances.  Judge Michael Coyne set bail for Mohamed at $10,000; Dualle at $15,000; and $30,000 for Hersi.  He ordered all three men to wear a GPS monitor, abide by a curfew, and stay away from downtown Boston in the event they are released on bail.  more »

BOSTON, April 15, 2014—A Dorchester man was arraigned today for the murder of 20-year-old Brousseau Normil during an armed robbery last year, Suffolk County District Attorney Daniel F. Conley said.

ERIC BARNES (D.O.B. 6/10/85) was arraigned in Suffolk Superior Court this morning on charges of first-degree murder and armed robbery in connection with Normil’s March 4, 2013, shooting death.  Assistant District Attorney Mark Lee, deputy chief of the DA’s Homicide Unit, requested that Barnes be held without bail.  Clerk Magistrate Gary Wilson granted the request. more »

BOSTON, April 14, 2014—Boston Police arrested a Dorchester man on murder charges this weekend after Suffolk County Grand Jury returned indictments against him and two co-defendants for murder and other offenses in the shooting death last year of 20-year-old Brousseau Normil, District Attorney Daniel F. Conley and Police Commissioner William Evans said today.

Boston Police arrested ERIC BARNES (D.O.B. 6/10/85) of Dorchester on Saturday in connection with Normil’s 2013 shooting death. He, KENNETH SALES (D.O.B. 4/25/90) of Roxbury, and TYRONNE SEAMS (D.O.B. 3/6/86) of Dorchester were indicted Friday on charges of first-degree murder and armed robbery. Sales is additionally charged with unlawful possession of a firearm; a fourth defendant, BRIANNA ERICKSON (D.O.B. 10/27/91) of Roxbury, was indicted for armed robbery, an offense for which she has already been arraigned in Roxbury Municipal Court. more »

BOSTON, April 14, 2014—Suffolk County District Attorney Daniel F. Conley today announced the region’s largest known state-level restitution order against a child pornography defendant.

ANDREW MCKINNON (D.O.B. 5/26/68) of Boston’s South End was ordered Friday to pay $30,000 in restitution to the now-adult victim, who had previously been identified by law enforcement officials, after admitting to possessing and distributing images of her abuse. McKinnon did not create the images: rather, he shared them after obtaining them and is not accused of sexual contact with her or any other children. more »

BOSTON, April 11, 2014—A Mattapan man working without a license as a funeral director was arraigned today for allegedly spending money earmarked for clients’ funeral expenses, and a wider investigation of his activity is already under way, Suffolk County District Attorney Daniel F. Conley said.

JOSEPH O’DONNELL (D.O.B. 9/10/58) was arraigned in Dorchester Municipal Court on two counts of larceny over $250. Assistant District Attorney Nicholas Walsh, Chief of the DA’s Special Prosecutions Unit, recommended that he be held on $10,000 cash bail and Judge Serge Georges imposed that amount. Georges also ordered O’Donnell to wear a GPS monitor and abide by a curfew of 10:00 pm to 7:00 am if he posts that amount. more »

BOSTON, April 10, 2014—A Brockton man was arraigned yesterday for allegedly kicking, punching, and using slurs against a man with cerebral palsy on a subway train after the victim was able to identify him on MBTA surveillance footage, Suffolk County District Attorney Daniel F. Conley said today.

THOMAS KENNEDY (D.O.B. 4/18/51) was arraigned in South Boston Municipal Court on charges of assault and battery on a disabled person, assault and battery with a dangerous weapon, and a civil rights violation.  Assistant District Attorney Elizabeth Burke requested bail be set in the amount of $7,500 and orders that Kennedy undergo an alcohol and mental health evaluations, undergo any treatment deemed necessary, stay away from and have no contact with the victim, and stay away from MBTA property.  Burke also requested that Kennedy’s bail be revoked on an open case out of West Roxbury Municipal Court charging indecent exposure and disorderly conduct.  Judge Michael Bolden set bail at $5,000 and ordered Kennedy to remain alcohol free, submit to an alcohol evaluation and undergo any necessary treatment, and to stay away from the MBTA.  He allowed the motion to revoke Kennedy’s bail. more »

BOSTON, April 10, 2014—The second of two lawyers indicted for stealing from their clients pleaded guilty this week, taking a house of correction sentence rather than the state prison term recommended by prosecutors, Suffolk County District Attorney Daniel F. Conley said.

PETER LAGORIO (D.O.B. 8/22/55) of Lynnfield admitted Tuesday to 17 counts of uttering a false document, three counts of larceny, and one count each of embezzlement by a fiduciary, conspiracy to commit larceny, and attempted larceny. Assistant District Attorney Benjamin Goldberger of the DA’s Special Prosecutions Unit recommended a term of two to three years in state prison; Suffolk Superior Court Judge Carol Ball imposed one year in a house of correction with six months to serve and the balance suspended for three years. more »

BOSTON, April 9, 2014—A private investigator from Scituate who once worked for the Suffolk County Sheriff’s Department was arraigned today for allegedly stalking, harassing, and threatening former co-workers during more than a year of anonymous phone calls, Suffolk District Attorney Daniel F. Conley said.

JOSEPH ALLEN (D.O.B. 4/13/60) was arrested this morning by Massachusetts State Police and Suffolk County Sheriff Steven Tompkins’ Investigative Division. He was arraigned in the Boston Municipal Court this afternoon on three counts of threats to commit a crime, two counts of annoying or harassing telephone calls, two counts of criminal harassment, and one count of stalking. more »

BOSTON, April 9, 2014—Suffolk County prosecutors today terminated the case against a North End man arrested last month in connection with a February sexual assault on Unity Street, citing a continued investigation that developed evidence to suggest he was not the assailant.

The filing, known as a nolle prosequi, ends the prosecution of ROSS CURRIER, 26, three weeks before his first scheduled court date. In it, prosecutors wrote that the continued investigation “reveals that the evidence does not support the charges.” Boston Police arrested Currier on the evening of March 10 after the victim in the Feb. 15 assault called police to report that she saw her assailant playing basketball; that man was Currier, who lives nearby more »

BOSTON, April 8, 2014—The state’s highest court today ruled that a jury may hear a murder defendant’s own words if prosecutors choose to introduce his statements to a cooperating witness who surreptitiously recorded their conversation, Suffolk County District Attorney Daniel F. Conley said.

In a unanimous decision authored by Justice Robert Cordy, the Supreme Judicial Court affirmed a Suffolk Superior Court judge’s denial of a motion by defendant TIMOTHY “TOOLMAN” HEARNS (D.O.B. 3/13/90) to suppress the statements recorded by a confidante who was wearing a wire. more »

BOSTON, April 8, 2014—The woman who killed 7-year-old Brianna Rosales and seriously injured the girl’s mother in an alleged drunk-driving crash may have been operating at almost five times the legal limit, Suffolk County District Attorney Daniel F. Conley said today.

BOSTON, April 7, 2014—A man with no fixed residence was sent for a mental health evaluation today at his arraignment for allegedly breaking into a Boston couple’s boat and claiming to be a member of the Harbor Patrol when they returned to find him on board early Sunday morning, Suffolk County District Attorney Daniel F. Conley said.

ERIC PFALTZGRAFF (D.O.B. 4/7/14), who claimed a post office box as his address, was arraigned on charges of breaking and entering with intent to commit a felony, larceny over $250, and impersonating a police officer. BOSTON, April 7, 2014—A former repairman from Dorchester was convicted last week of stealing three handguns and a semiautomatic rifle from a veteran who had stored them in his building’s secure basement, Suffolk County District Attorney Daniel F. Conley said.

After a jury-waived trial, Suffolk Superior Court Judge Frances McIntyre found SEAN REARDON (D.O.B. 3/22/80) guilty of three counts of unlawful possession of a firearm and single counts of unlawful possession of a rifle, unlawful possession of ammunition, breaking and entering in the night time with intent to commit a felony, and larceny over $250. McIntyre found Reardon not guilty of unlawful distribution of firearms and unlawful possession of a high-capacity feeding device. more »

BOSTON, April 4, 2014—The driver of a garbage truck was charged today with leaving the scene of a collision that killed a cyclist in Charlestown, Suffolk County District Attorney Daniel F. Conley said.

RICKY PREZIOSO (D.O.B. 4/13/72) of Swampscott was arrested last night by Boston Police detectives and formally charged this morning with one count of leaving the scene of an accident causing death. Assistant District Attorney Ian Leson of the DA’s staff in Charlestown Municipal Court recommended that Prezioso be held on $15,000 cash bail and requested orders that he wear a GPS device if he posts that amount and that Prezioso’s bail on an open Woburn case charging assault and battery be revoked. more »
