BOSTON, Dec. 30, 2014— Seven teenagers ranging from 13 to 19 years old were arraigned today for allegedly attacking two Boston Police officers attempting to serve arrest warrants on one of them, Suffolk County District Attorney Daniel F. Conley said today.

LORCEN MORISSET (D.O.B. 11/9/96) and WOOBENSON MORISSET (D.O.B. 2/1/95), both of Roxbury, were arraigned in Roxbury Municipal Court on two counts each of assault and battery on a police officer. Woobenson Morisset was additionally charged with resisting arrest. A Roxbury court clerk declined to issue complaints charging both men with assault and battery with a dangerous weapon – a shod foot – and Lorcen Morisset with resisting arrest; authorities will re-apply for those complaints at a later date. more »

BOSTON, Dec. 29, 2014—A Hyde Park man was held without bail today at his arraignment on a murder charge for allegedly stabbing Rafael Guzman to death at a party on Blue Hill Avenue, Suffolk County District Attorney Daniel F. Conley said.

AQUILES PEREZ (D.O.B. 9/7/81) was arrested late this morning by Boston Police homicide detectives investigating Guzman’s death early on Dec. 21. He was arraigned today in Roxbury Municipal Court. more »

BOSTON, Dec. 29, 2014—A Dorchester man on probation for unlawfully possessing a firearm was held on high bail after his arraignment on a new gun case, Suffolk County District Attorney Daniel F. Conley said.

DAQUANE MITCHELL (D.O.B. 4/6/90) was arraigned today in Roxbury Municipal Court on charges of unlawful possession of a firearm as a second offense, unlawful possession of ammunition as a second offense, and trespassing. Mitchell was additionally charged as an armed career criminal in light of his conviction in a 2011 shooting on Humboldt Avenue. He served a three-year state prison sentence for armed assault with intent to murder in that case and is currently on probation for unlawful possession of a firearm.

Assistant District Attorney Caitlin Fitzgerald recommended that he be held on $50,000 cash bail and be ordered to stay away from Homestead Street. Judge David Weingarten set bail at $25,000 and ordered that he stay away from 115 Homestead St., the scene of his arrest. more »

Defense Expert “Essentially Eviscerated” His Own Opinion during Hearings

 

BOSTON, Dec. 29, 2014—In a withering, 24-page decision, the chief justice of the Superior Court denied a new trial for a man who murdered his own mother almost 15 years ago, finding that the lone witness to opine that he was incompetent to assist in his trial defense “essentially eviscerated” his own determination under cross-examination by Suffolk prosecutors. more »

BOSTON, Dec. 26, 2014—The state’s highest court today affirmed a murder conviction against the man who beat 18-year-old Elsie “Yolanda” Hernandes to death 30 years ago almost to the day, Suffolk County District Attorney Daniel F. Conley said.

The Supreme Judicial Court rejected an appeal by SULTAN OMAR CHEZULU (D.O.B. 10/2/48), ruling that his 2010 trial was fair. Chezulu, who changed his name from ROBERT LOUIS SCOTT in 1997, was found guilty of Hernandes’ Dec. 28, 1984, murder under all three theories of first-degree murder – deliberate premeditation, extreme atrocity or cruelty, and felony murder. Chezulu’s homicide conviction is at least the 12th in Suffolk County to be affirmed by the SJC this year. more »

BOSTON, Dec. 23, 2014—In an emotionally-charged impact statement, a Boston Police officer today expressed forgiveness for the man who tried to murder him during a foot chase in South Boston last year, Suffolk County District Attorney Daniel F. Conley said.

PAUL ERIC LOUIS-JEUNE (D.O.B. 9/1/91) of Braintree pleaded guilty to charges of armed assault with intent to murder, assault with a dangerous weapon, unlawful possession of a firearm, and unlawfully carrying a loaded firearm for the July 16, 2013, incident in the Old Harbor housing development.  more »

BOSTON, Dec. 23, 2014—The man who murdered Shakora Gaines, Chantal Palmer, and Anthony Peoples five years ago was sentenced to three life sentences today, with two of those terms to be served back-to-back, Suffolk County District Attorney Daniel F. Conley said.

At today’s sentencing for KERON PIERRE (D.O.B. 11/26/85), Assistant District Attorney Mark T. Lee recommended a 19- to 20-year prison term for the attempted murder of a 23-year-old who miraculously survived the defendant’s unprovoked attack, followed by three consecutive life terms for the murder victims who, he said, were “far closer to children than to adults.” more »

BOSTON, Dec. 22, 2014—A West Newton man today admitted to badly beating a homeless man in Allston earlier this year, Suffolk County District Attorney Daniel F. Conley said.

CRAIG PARSONS (D.O.B. 4/24/91) pleaded guilty to aggravated assault and battery, aggravated assault and battery with a dangerous weapon, and witness intimidation – all the charges against him – for the January beating of a 50-year-old man who had been panhandling on Allston Street. more »

BOSTON, Dec. 19, 2014—A Suffolk Superior Court Jury has convicted a former Mattapan man of all charges in the unprovoked murders of Shakora Gaines, Chantal Palmer, and Anthony Peoples in Dorchester, Suffolk County District Attorney Daniel F. Conley said today.

Jurors convicted KERON PIERRE (D.O.B. 11/26/85) of three counts of first-degree murder, finding that he acted with extreme atrocity or cruelty in all three slayings and with deliberate premeditation in Palmer’s killing. Jurors also convicted him of armed assault with intent to murder for shooting at a fourth occupant of the car, a young woman who escaped with her life – but watched her best friends die. more »

BOSTON, Dec. 19, 2014—A man was arraigned yesterday on charges he violated the civil rights of a Green Line passenger he harassed, punched, and attempted to rob at an MBTA station, Suffolk County District Attorney Daniel F. Conley said.

MATTHEW FRANKLIN (D.O.B. 12/30/86), who claimed a downtown homeless shelter as his address, was arraigned yesterday in Boston Municipal Court on charges of unarmed assault with intent to rob, assault and battery, and violating his victim’s civil rights.  Assistant District Attorney Matthew Fitzgerald requested bail of $2,000; Judge Thomas Horgan imposed $1,000 bail. more »

BOSTON, Dec. 18, 2014—A Dorchester man was convicted yesterday of possessing child pornography and trading it using an online file-sharing service, Suffolk County District Attorney Daniel F. Conley said.

A West Roxbury Municipal Court jury found FRANCISCO RIVERA-YORRO (D.O.B. 3/3/62) guilty of possession of child pornography and dissemination of obscene images.  At the request of Assistant District Attorney Christina Miller, Conley’s Chief of District Courts, Judge Mary Ann Driscoll sentenced Rivera-Yorro to two and a half years in the house of correction. more »

BOSTON, Dec. 17, 2014—The suspect in a double shooting that left Javier Ortiz dead and another man with a gunshot wound to the chest was held without bail today after his arraignment in Chelsea District Court, Suffolk county District Attorney Daniel F. Conley said.

HECTOR ENAMORADO (D.O.B. 10/22/78) of Chelsea was arraigned on single counts of murder and armed assault with intent to murder for allegedly shooting Ortiz, age 29, and the surviving victim, age 34, inside a Chester Avenue apartment early Sunday morning. more »

BOSTON, Dec. 15, 2014— The state’s highest court today rejected an appeal by the man who murdered retired Cambridge Police Officer Myles “Tony” Lawton and tried to kill a second man, Suffolk County District Attorney Daniel F. Conley said.

In a 32-page decision authored by Chief Justice Ralph Gants, the Supreme Judicial Court affirmed the 2009 convictions of MICHAEL COLLINS (D.O.B. 11/5/79) for second-degree murder, armed assault with intent to murder, and unlawful possession of a firearm for the fatal shooting death of Lawton, 62, and the non-fatal shooting of a second man. more »

BOSTON, Dec. 15, 2014— A Suffolk Superior Court jury today convicted Roosevelt Harris’ killer of first-degree murder, rejecting his claim that he was so mentally ill that he was not criminally responsible for beating the 50-year-old to death with a baseball bat, Suffolk County District Attorney Daniel F. Conley said.

Shortly after the jury’s verdict, Judge Peter Muse sentenced CRISTIAN RODRIGUEZ (D.O.B. 7/19/76) to life in prison without the possibility of parole, the mandatory sentence for murder one. more »

BOSTON, Dec. 15, 2014— A Lowell man was sentenced to prison today after he admitted that he shook his son, 9-week-old William Berry, to death last year, Suffolk County District Attorney Daniel F. Conley said.

CHRISTOPHER BERRY (D.O.B. 5/14/90) today pleaded guilty to manslaughter in connection with his son’s 2013 death in Lowell last year.  At the request of Assistant District Attorney Gloriann Moroney, chief of Conley’s Child Protection Unit, Middlesex Superior Court Judge Marita Hopkins sentenced Berry to 12 to 16 years in prison. more »

BOSTON, Dec. 15, 2014—Eight defendants face arraignment this week for their alleged roles in a nationwide scam that drained hundreds of thousands of dollars from the victims’ home equity lines of credit, just weeks after a Cambridge woman was ordered to reimburse a California bank for funds stolen in a similar scheme, Suffolk County District Attorney Daniel F. Conley said.

RICARDO PETERSON (D.O.B. 8/22/80) of Roxbury, MIGUEL BALAN (D.O.B. 4/4/93) of Revere, JOHN BRISTOW (D.O.B. 3/13/73) of Dedham, MOLIJAH BUREY (D.O.B. 11/14/91) of Dorchester, TROY FERNANDEZ (D.O.B. 8/7/89) of Dorchester are expected to be arraigned tomorrow in Suffolk Superior Court on charges of receiving stolen goods over $250, larceny over $250, conspiracy, and money laundering.

Three additional defendants charged in connection with the scheme – CHERYDA GRANT (D.O.B. 1/1/70) of Hyde Park, DAVID JOHNSON (D.O.B. 2/17/82) of Stoughton, and JOHN JOHNSON (D.O.B. 7/25/79) of Norwood – face arraignment Thursday on identical charges.  more »

BOSTON, Dec. 14, 2014—Chelsea Police Chief Brian Kyes and Suffolk County District Attorney Daniel F. Conley said they are searching for a Chelsea resident in connection with a double shooting in a Chester Avenue residence that left one man dead and another injured early yesterday morning.

BOSTON, Dec. 12, 2014—Suffolk County District Attorney Daniel F. Conley last week hosted a psychology professor and a veteran police investigator for a two-day training in cutting-edge interview techniques as part of his ongoing continuing education program.

The training, led by Prof. Brent Snook of the Memorial University of Newfoundland and Constable Todd Barron of the Royal Newfoundland Constabulary, introduced Suffolk prosecutors to the interview method known as PEACE – for Preparation and Planning, Engage and Explain, Account, Closure, and Evaluation. Members of the DA’s Homicide and Senior Trial units attended the training on Friday and Saturday. more »

JOHN MONTEIRO (D.O.B. 4/6/83) was arraigned today on charges of unlawful possession of a firearm, unlawful possession of ammunition, and carrying a loaded firearm.  He was additionally charged with unlawful possession of a firearm as a subsequent offense and as a Level I armed career criminal based on convictions for armed assault with intent to rob and firearm possession. more »

JOHNNIE BONNIE (D.O.B. 6/28/92) of Jamaica Plain was arraigned in Suffolk Superior Court today on charges of first-degree murder, unlawful possession of a firearm, unlawful possession of ammunition, and unlawfully carrying a loaded firearm, all in connection Archer’s shooting death.  He was also arraigned on a separate, unrelated case charging unlawful possession of a firearm, unlawful possession of ammunition, carrying a loaded firearm, and receiving a firearm with a defaced serial number. more »

BOSTON, Dec. 8, 2014—The state’s highest court has ruled that a man who took part in the 1991 murder of Timothy Bond in Jamaica Plain will not receive a new trial, Suffolk County District Attorney Daniel F. Conley said today.

The Supreme Judicial Court in a decision authored by Justice Robert Cordy today affirmed a lower court’s order denying PEDRO VALENTIN a new trial more than two decades after he was convicted of first-degree murder for his role as a joint venturer in Bond’s July 15, 1991, murder.  The same court affirmed Valentin’s conviction in 1995; today’s decision came in response to Valentin’s appeal of a Suffolk Superior Court judge’s denial of his 2012 motion for a new trial. more »

BOSTON, Dec. 5, 2014—A Mattapan man convicted yesterday of a Roslindale burglary this summer will serve the maximum penalty for breaking and entering, Suffolk County District Attorney Daniel F. Conley said.

A West Roxbury Municipal Court jury yesterday found MARCKENLEY CASIMIR (D.O.B. 8/1/90) guilty of breaking and entering, possession of burglarious tools, and receiving stolen property.  Judge Mary Ann Driscoll imposed a sentence of two and a half years in a house of correction. more »

BOSTON, Dec. 3, 2014—Two years and a day after 25-year-old Alexander Callahan was brutally beaten to death inside the Suffolk County House of Correction, his killer was sentenced to spend the next 20 years in prison, Suffolk County District Attorney Daniel F. Conley said today.

A Suffolk Superior Court jury last month convicted LESLEY JURCZUK (D.O.B. 10/15/61) of voluntary manslaughter in Callahan’s beating death.  Judge Charles Hely today imposed sentenced Jurczuk to 18 to 20 years in prison – the maximum sentence allowed under the law and that recommended by First Assistant District Attorney Patrick Haggan.  Jurczuk’s attorney sought a sentence of four to seven years. more »

BOSTON, Dec. 2, 2014—The man who allegedly stabbed two park rangers when they asked him to put out a cigarette was held on $1 million bail at his Superior Court arraignment today, Suffolk County District Attorney Daniel F. Conley said.

BODIO HUTCHINSON (D.O.B. 8/6/80) was arraigned on two counts of armed assault with intent to murder and single counts of assault and battery and aggravated assault and battery.  Clerk Magistrate Anne Kaczmarek imposed $1 million bail at the request of Assistant District Attorney Lynn Feigenbaum of the DA’s Senior Trial Unit. The Suffolk County Grand Jury indicted Hutchinson on Nov. 24. more »

BOSTON, Dec. 2, 2014—A Hyde Park man was arraigned yesterday for human trafficking and other charges after he allegedly threatened a woman he advertised on a web site linked to prostitution, Suffolk County District Attorney Daniel F. Conley said.

RICHARD HOLMES (D.O.B. 1/3/91) was arraigned in West Roxbury Municipal Court on charges of trafficking of a person for sexual servitude, deriving support from prostitution, maintaining a house of prostitution, and making threats to commit a crime.  Assistant District Attorney Michelle Slade requested that Holmes be held on $30,000 bail and be ordered to stay away and have no contact with the 25-year-old victim and be fitted for a GPS monitor in the event that he were to be released on bail.  Judge Kathleen Coffey imposed $10,000 bail and the requested conditions of release but denied a motion to revoke Holmes’ bail in an open case charging him with operating a motor vehicle with a suspended license. more »
