BOSTON, Nov. 28, 2014— The Suffolk County Grand Jury this week indicted a Quincy man has for first-degree murder for fatally stabbing 31-year-old Gerald Williamson as he attempted to walk away from their verbal confrontation, District Attorney Daniel F. Conley announced today.

The first-degree murder indictment was returned Wednesday against EDGARDO CLARK (D.O.B. 5/25/85). Clark has been held without bail since his Oct. 21 arraignment in Dorchester Municipal Court in connection with Williamson’s murder. more »

BOSTON, Nov. 28, 2014—A Revere man was held on high bail today after he was arrested for firing shots during a confrontation over a parking spot, Suffolk County District Attorney Daniel F. Conley said.

JEFFREY MORENO (D.O.B. 1/13/86) was arraigned in Chelsea District Court on four counts of assault with a dangerous weapon, two counts of making threats to commit a crime, and one count each of unlawful possession of a firearm, unlawful possession of ammunition, discharging a firearm within 500 feet of a building, and possessing a firearm during the commission of a felony. more »

BOSTON, Nov. 26, 2014—Two men pleaded guilty this week to their roles in unrelated homicides in Boston and Chelsea, Suffolk County District Attorney Daniel F. Conley said.

On Monday, ANDRE McNEIL (D.O.B. 10/25/89) of Brockton pleaded guilty to manslaughter for the Nov. 14, 2007, shooting death of 17-year-old David Jones. At the request of Assistant District Attorney Mark Zanini, Judge Jeffrey Locke sentenced McNeil to 12 years in state prison. more »

BOSTON, Nov. 26, 2014—About 40 men and women arrested during overnight protests in Boston had their criminal charges converted to civil infractions and resolved today, meaning that the low-level offenses will not appear on their records, Suffolk County District Attorney Daniel F. Conley said.

In the Central Division of the Boston Municipal Court, Suffolk prosecutors affirmatively moved to amend criminal complaints against 18 arrestees to civil infractions prior to arraignment, then dismissed them.  Those individuals ranged in age from 19 to 32.  Twelve were from Boston and the remaining six were from Cambridge, Los Angeles, Newton, Quincy, and Somerville. Twelve were charged with disorderly conduct, four were charged with disturbing the peace, and two were charged with disorderly conduct and trespassing. more »

BOSTON, Nov. 25, 2014—Eighteen years after a child rape defendant fled his indictment and one week after his arrest out of state, the former Dorchester resident was held on high bail at his arraignment today in Suffolk Superior Court, District Attorney Daniel F. Conley said.

LENS CHAPPELL (D.O.B. 5/20/48) was arraigned today on eight counts of rape of a child, three counts of indecent assault and battery on a child, and two counts of indecent assault and battery. Assistant District Attorney Gloriann Moroney, chief of the DA’s Child Protection Unit, recommended that he be held on $750,000 cash bail.  Clerk Anne Kaczmarek imposed that amount. more »

BOSTON, Nov. 24, 2014— The man who fatally shot 21-year-old Steven Jones in the course of a fistfight Jones was trying to break up pleaded guilty today as his trial was set to begin, Suffolk County District Attorney Daniel F. Conley said.

PABLO FLORES, Jr. (D.O.B. 2/17/93) of Charlestown today pleaded guilty to voluntary manslaughter, unlawful possession of a firearm, carrying a loaded firearm, and two counts of assault with a dangerous weapon.  He was initially charged with second-degree murder. At the recommendation of Assistant District Attorney Nicholas Walsh, Suffolk Superior Court Judge Charles Hely sentenced Flores to eight to 12 years in prison followed by three years of probation. more »

BOSTON, Nov. 24, 2014— An East Boston man was held on high bail today after Boston Police who arrested him for attempted rape and other charges linked him to an earlier, similar sexual assault, District Attorney Daniel F. Conley said.

EDUARDO SELVAN HERNANDEZ-ORTIZ (D.O.B. 2/5/94) appeared in East Boston Municipal Court on charges of assault with intent to rape, armed robbery, indecent assault and battery of a person over 14, open and gross lewdness, and receiving stolen property under $250 in connection with an assault that occurred Saturday and charges of aggravated rape and armed robbery for an assault that occurred Nov. 1. more »

BOSTON, Nov. 20, 2014—A Roslindale man who represented himself as a pastor will serve up to 12 years in state prison for sexual assaults on a girl in her young teens, Suffolk County District Attorney Daniel F. Conley said.

A Suffolk Superior Court jury on Nov. 5 convicted EPIPHANE LAZARRE (D.O.B. 5/27/73) of two counts of aggravated rape of a child under 14 and one count of indecent assault and battery on a child under 14 for the 2012 assaults. At a sentencing hearing yesterday, Assistant District Attorney Laura Montgomery recommended that he serve a term of 15 to 20 years in state prison followed by 10 years of probation. Judge Christopher Muse sentenced him to 10 to 12 years in prison and the recommended probationary term upon his release. more »

BOSTON, Nov. 19, 2014—A repeat drunk driver who crashed into a car with three children in it was held pending a hearing to determine whether he poses too great a threat to the public to be granted bail pending trial, Suffolk County District Attorney Daniel F. Conley said.

JOHN SFERRAZZA (D.O.B. 5/21/65) of South Boston was arraigned today in Roxbury Municipal Court on charges of operating under the influence as a fourth or subsequent offense, operating a motor vehicle with a suspended license, larceny of a motor vehicle, receiving a stolen motor vehicle, and assault and battery on a police officer for yesterday’s incident in the South End. more »

BOSTON, Nov. 18, 2014—Boston Police and Suffolk prosecutors have identified suspects in two open homicide cases from this year, gathering evidence that led to their indictments Friday by the Suffolk County Grand Jury, District Attorney Daniel F. Conley and Police Commissioner William B. Evans said.

Members of the Boston Police Fugitive Unit today arrested ROGER MORRIS (D.O.B. 6/23/61), who is homeless, on a warrant stemming from his indictment for manslaughter, aggravated assault and battery, and assault with a dangerous weapon in the death of Edward Lawn. Authorities say Morris and Lawn were engaged in an altercation downtown on the afternoon of June 20 when Morris punched Lawn so hard that Lawn fell backward and hit his head on the sidewalk. He died of that injury on June 24. more »

BOSTON, Nov. 17, 2014—A Suffolk Superior Court jury today convicted the man who beat 25-year-old Alexander Callahan to death at the Suffolk County House of Correction, Suffolk County District Attorney Daniel F. Conley said.

Jurors convicted LESLEY JURCZUK (D.O.B. 10/15/61) of voluntary manslaughter for beating Callahan so badly in the cell they shared that Callahan died of fatal injuries to his head and neck. Jurczuk had been indicted for second-degree murder. more »

BOSTON, Nov. 17, 2014—A three-time drunk driver has been charged with motor vehicle homicide for a Saturday morning crash that killed his passenger, 41-year-old Lillian Grover, Suffolk County District Attorney Daniel F. Conley said.

JEFFREY MASON (D.O.B. 9/11/72) of Walpole was arraigned today in West Roxbury Municipal Court on charges of motor vehicle homicide while operating under the influence, OUI as a fourth offense, negligent operation of a motor vehicle, and leaving the scene of an accident. more »

BOSTON, Nov. 17, 2014—The woman who stabbed her abusive boyfriend to death this summer was acting in self-defense and will not face criminal charges, Suffolk County District Attorney Daniel F. Conley announced today.

Prosecutors’ decision not to charge the 26-year-old Dorchester resident came after a three-month investigation into the July 31 stabbing of Emmanuel Jeudi inside the victim’s Washington Street apartment. That investigation – which included witness interviews, forensic analysis of evidence at the scene, the opinion of state pathologists, a review of prior allegations of domestic violence involving Jeudi, and legal analysis by Suffolk homicide prosecutors – revealed that the woman acted reasonably and lawfully to defend herself, Conley said. She is not being publicly identified because she is not accused of a crime. more »

BOSTON, Nov. 17, 2014—Chelsea and State police are investigating a single-car crash just before 1:00 a.m. that left one man dead and another injured.

The preliminary investigation suggests that a 35-year-old East Boston man driving a 2001 GMC sport-utility vehicle on 4th Street at a high rate of speed when he hit a signpost at the corner of Cherry Street and then collided with the exterior of a building. more »

BOSTON, Nov. 14, 2014—A March trial date has been set for a West Roxbury man charged with causing a motor vehicle crash last year that injured five people, two of them very seriously.

West Roxbury Municipal Court Judge Mary Ann Driscoll scheduled the trial of NIKOLAS PAPADOPOULOS (D.O.B. 4/8/95) for March 3, 2015. Papadopoulos is charged with negligent operation of a motor vehicle in connection with the Sept. 6, 2013, crash on the Arborway. The trial will be held in Brighton Municipal Court because of expected roadway construction near the West Roxbury courthouse. more »

BOSTON, Nov. 14, 2014—Suffolk County District Attorney Daniel F. Conley said today that investigators had conclusively identified all 12 of the bodies recovered from a Weymouth storage facility this year and appealed to the public for help locating the next of kin for three of the deceased.

The announcement comes amid the ongoing prosecution of JOSEPH V. O’DONNELL (D.O.B. 9/10/58), who is currently facing 278 charges including improper disposal of human remains, larceny, embezzlement, forgery, uttering, returning a false death certificate, and acting as a funeral director without a license.  more »

BOSTON, Nov. 12, 2014—A Dorchester man was arraigned on firearms charges today after a concerned family member discovered a loaded gun in the family home and alerted Boston Police, Suffolk County District Attorney Daniel F. Conley said.

DEXTER SPINOLA (D.O.B. 8/28/69) was arraigned this morning in Dorchester Municipal Court on charges of unlawful possession of a firearm and unlawful possession of ammunition.  Assistant District Attorney William Kettlewell requested bail of $20,000 and orders that Spinola wear a GPS monitor, abide by a curfew, and stay away from the Claybourne Street residence where the firearm was found in the event he is released on bail.  Judge Debra DelVecchio imposed $9,000 bail and all of the requested conditions. more »

BOSTON, Nov. 10, 2014—A Jamaica Plain man was arraigned today for allegedly touching an 8-year-old child improperly at a Boston hospital yesterday, Suffolk County District Attorney Daniel F. Conley said.

JUAN P. CORTES (D.O.B. 5/30/89) was arraigned on one count of indecent assault and battery on a child for the incident at Boston University Medical Center. Assistant District Attorney AlexaRae Wright recommended that he be held on $10,000 cash bail and, if he posts that amount, that he be ordered to abide by a curfew, wear a GPS monitor, and stay away from all children under 16, including the victim. more »

BOSTON, Nov. 10, 2014—The man who allegedly walked away with a dead woman’s phone after she was struck and killed by an MBTA train was arraigned today on a larceny charge, Suffolk County District Attorney Daniel F. Conley said.

JOSUE GONZALEZ (D.O.B. 9/8/88) of Brockton was arraigned on one count of larceny over $250. Noting that he turned himself in and walked into court for arraignment, Assistant District Attorney Erica Brody recommended that he be released on his own recognizance with orders to abide by a curfew, check in weekly with a probation officer, and stray out of downtown Boston. Boston Municipal Court Judge Lisa Grant released him without monetary bail but declined to impose any conditions of release. more »

BOSTON, Nov. 10, 2014—The man accused of murdering 33-year-old Melissa Hardy was sentenced today to life in prison, Suffolk County District Attorney Daniel F. Conley said.

MARTIN JIMINEZ (D.O.B. 3/9/70) of South Boston pleaded guilty to second-degree murder in Hardy’s June 23, 2013, bludgeoning death.  Judge Jeffrey Locke imposed the mandatory sentence of life in prison with the possibility of parole after 15 years. more »

BOSTON, Nov. 10, 2014—A driver for a Brookline-based taxi company was arraigned today for allegedly punching and intentionally driving into a cyclist who sought his help after an accident, Suffolk County District Attorney Daniel F. Conley said.

SAM CHANDLER (D.O.B. 11/25/68) of Boston was arraigned in the Boston Municipal Court on charges of assault and battery, assault and battery with a dangerous weapon, and leaving the scene of a collision causing injury. Assistant District Attorney Eric Anderson recommended bail of $2,000 and orders that he stay away from the victim; Judge Thomas Horgan imposed $1,000 bail and imposed the stay-away order. more »

BOSTON, Nov. 6, 2014—Two men accused of robbing a downtown fast food restaurant and beating its employees were held on $100,000 cash bail each following their arraignment in the Boston Municipal Court, Suffolk County District Attorney Daniel F. Conley said.

MASON McKOY (D.O.B. 4/19/87) and ANDRE NESBETH (D.O.B. 11/10/87), both of Dorchester, were charged this afternoon with armed robbery while masked, kidnapping, and assault and battery for the incident just after midnight at the McDonald’s on Tremont Street. Judge Michael Coyne ordered both men to return to court on Dec. 4. more »

BOSTON, Nov. 6, 2014—A young abuse survivor had a message of strength and support for other victims as the Dorchester man who exploited her was sentenced to prison, Suffolk County District Attorney Daniel F. Conley said.

A Suffolk Superior Court jury on Monday convicted EDGAR SOARES (D.O.B. 9/29/77) of three counts of rape of a child under 16, a single count of indecent assault and battery on a child under 14, and two counts of disseminating harmful matter to a minor.  Jurors acquitted Soares of one additional count each of rape of a child under 16 and indecent assault and battery on a child under 14. more »

BOSTON, Nov. 5, 2014—A Revere man today admitted to filing false nomination papers with the Massachusetts Secretary of State’s office, Suffolk County District Attorney Daniel F. Conley said.

JOSEPH CURRAN (D.O.B. 6/17/89) pleaded guilty to 16 counts of filing false nomination papers, a misdemeanor that carries up to a year in a house of correction. Suffolk Superior Court Judge Carol Ball sentenced him to two years of probation. more »

BOSTON, Nov. 5, 2014— A Roxbury was held on high bail at his arraignment today on charges he shot a store clerk during a convenience store robbery, Suffolk County District Attorney Daniel F. Conley said.

JARRIS CHARLEY (D.O.B. 4/30/93) of Roxbury was arraigned in Dorchester Municipal Court today on charges of armed robbery while masked, assault with intent to murder, assault and battery with a dangerous weapon, unlawful possession of a firearm, and unlawful possession of ammunition.  Assistant District Attorney William Kettlewell requested bail of $250,000 and that Charley be ordered to remain under house arrest, wear a GPS monitor, stay away from the location of the crime, and stay away and have no contact with the victim or witnesses in the event he is released on bail.  Judge Debra DelVecchio set bail at $100,000 and imposed the requested conditions of release but granted the defendant permission to leave his house for employment purposes while under house arrest. more »

Two men have been identified and held in connection with the attempted murder of a Chelsea teen in September, Suffolk County District Attorney Daniel F. Conley and Chelsea Police Chief Brian Kyes said.

The two men, JOSE LOPEZ (D.O.B. 4/5/94) of Revere and JOSE VASQUEZ (D.O.B. 10/3/93) of Somerville, are charged with assault with intent to murder in connection with the Sept. 8 attack on the 16-year-old, who suffered 10 separate stab wounds in the daylight incident. more »

BOSTON, Nov. 3, 2014—A Revere man was arraigned today for allegedly using a golf club to strike three Chelsea youths during an altercation that erupted while they were separately trick-or-treating, Suffolk County District Attorney Daniel F. Conley said.

CARL HOLMBERG (D.O.B. 6/7/70) is charged with one count of assault and battery on a child and three counts of assault and battery with a dangerous weapon – a golf club. Assistant District Attorney Philip Cheng recommended bail of $2500. Judge Matthew Nestor released Holmberg on his own recognizance with orders to stay away from the victims and their families. more »
