BOSTON, May 31, 2018—A former school employee who held himself out as an anti-violence clergyman has been found guilty of attempting to murder a student he had recruited to sell marijuana, Suffolk County District Attorney Daniel F. Conley said.

SHAUN O. HARRISON, 58, faces sentencing tomorrow morning after a Suffolk Superior Court jury today found him guilty of armed assault with intent to murder, aggravated assault and battery with a dangerous weapon, unlawful possession of a firearm, possession of a firearm in the commission of a felony, possession with intent to distribute a Class D substance, and two counts each of unlawful possession of a rifle or shotgun and unlawful possession of ammunition. Jurors deliberated for approximately one day before returning the verdicts. more »

BOSTON, May 31, 2018—A drunk driver was sentenced to state prison today following his conviction yesterday for killing 25-year-old Marco Salguero-Cruz in Chelsea two years ago, Suffolk County District Attorney Daniel F. Conley said.

A Suffolk Superior Court jury yesterday found JOSE DANIEL AREVALO, 35, guilty of motor vehicle homicide while operating under the influence and leaving the scene of a collision causing death in connection with the 2016 collision that claimed Salguero-Cruz’ life on Washington Street.

Assistant District Attorney Michael V. Glennon recommended concurrent terms of five to seven years in state prison. Judge Linda Giles imposed a sentence of three and a half to four years on the motor vehicle homicide conviction and a sentence of two and a half years in a house of correction for leaving the scene, with one year deemed served while awaiting trial and the balance suspended for a four-year probationary term. During that period, she ordered, Arevalo must remain alcohol free and take part in an alcohol abuse program. more »

BOSTON, May 30, 2018—A Suffolk Superior Court jury today convicted a drunk driver of killing 25-year-old Marco Salguero-Cruz and speeding away from the scene after a night of drinking at a Chelsea bar, Suffolk County District Attorney Daniel F. Conley said.

Jurors convicted JOSE DANIEL AREVALO, 35, of motor vehicle homicide while under the influence and leaving the scene of a collision causing death. He will be sentenced tomorrow morning.

“Two years ago, the defendant made a choice that cost Marco Salguero-Cruz his life,” Conley said. “Suffolk prosecutors, Chelsea detectives, and State troopers worked for untold hours on this case, first to identify the suspect, then to apprehend him, and finally to hold him accountable. He fled the scene. He fled the country. But he could not flee from justice in a Suffolk County courtroom.” more »

BOSTON, May 30, 2018— A Roslindale man has been ordered held without bail in the stabbing death of 41-year-old Mackenson Henry during an altercation in Hyde Park yesterday, Suffolk County District Attorney Daniel F. Conley said.

RUDY JEAN-BAPTISTE, 28, was arraigned today in West Roxbury Municipal Court on a charge of murder. At the request of Assistant District Attorney Craig Iannini of the DA’s Homicide Unit, Judge Mary Ann Driscoll ordered Jean-Baptiste held without bail. more »

May 27, 2018, UPDATE: The taxi driver sought as a witness in yesterday morning’s hit-and-run, which killed 40-year-old Pierre Desir, has come forward and spoke with State Police investigators this morning. Based on evidence at the scene, video footage, and witness statements, the vehicle involved in the collision is believed to be a four-door sedan, dark in color, with front end damage that includes a missing headlight. The vehicle may be a Honda Accord, possibly a 1999-2004 model. Anyone with information on such a vehicle that sustained recent, significant, and unexplained front-end damage is asked to contact the Suffolk County State Police Detective

BOSTON, May 25, 2018— Two brothers face life in prison at their sentencing next week after a jury today convicted them for their shared roles in the fatal shooting of 28-year-old Allex Bryant in Roxbury, Suffolk County District Attorney Daniel F. Conley said.

A Suffolk Superior Court jury deliberated for eight days before today finding DARTANYAN PLEDGER, 26, of Dorchester and NICCOKAWON PLEDGER, 28, of Quincy, guilty of second-degree murder, armed assault with intent to murder, assault and battery with a dangerous weapon, unlawful possession of a firearm, unlawful possession of ammunition, and carrying a loaded firearm for the March 21, 2016, shooting that killed Bryant and injured a second man. The same jury convicted LISA LEWIS, 26, of Quincy, of two counts of being an accessory after the fact of the fatal shootout. more »

BOSTON, May 23, 2018—A former hospital employee and several of her personal associates have been indicted for allegedly using stolen prescription forms to allow herself and others to obtain powerful opiate painkillers, Suffolk County District Attorney Daniel F. Conley said.

The indictments, unsealed today, charge JILLIAN CURRAN, 28, of Brighton with trafficking in Oxycodone, possession of Oxycodone with intent to distribute, uttering a false prescription, and multiple counts of conspiracy to violate the state’s drug laws.

Also indicted for trafficking in Oxycodone and conspiring with Curran were DWAYNE JOHNSON, 36, of Brighton; VALENTINA HERRERA a.k.a. JACQUELINE OTERO-DIAZ, 33, of Brighton; GLENDALYS SANTIAGO, 28, of Mattapan; JOSE SANTIAGO, 23, of Brighton; and JEAN TRIOLET, 49, of Brighton. more »

BOSTON, May 23, 2018—The man accused of stabbing a Chelsea waitress in the neck after refusing to pay his bill is heading back to Massachusetts in police custody to face an attempted murder charge, Suffolk County District Attorney Daniel F. Conley said.

Detectives assigned to the DA’s Special Investigations Unit took custody of GERARDO MENJIVAR, 36, today in Prince George’s County, Maryland, where he has been held since his arrest earlier this month. Menjivar is expected to appear tomorrow in Chelsea District Court on charges of armed assault with intent to murder and assault and battery with a dangerous weapon. more »

BOSTON, May 22, 2018—A Dorchester man who allegedly shot a man in the head from the back of a scooter had his bail revoked today on an earlier case in which he allegedly carried a handgun while riding a different scooter, Suffolk County District Attorney Daniel F. Conley said.

KEVIN WOODS, 19, allegedly fired on the 20-year-old victim while his 17-year-old co-defendant operated the scooter. Both are charged with armed assault with intent to murder, armed carjacking, and multiple firearms offenses. The juvenile, a resident of Salem, was additionally charged with leaving the scene of a collision causing injury.

“It’s chilling to think just how easily this could have become a homicide,” Conley said. “The victim could have been killed. Anyone on that street, in the middle of a weekday afternoon, could have been killed. The conduct alleged in these charges puts everyone at risk and it can’t be tolerated.” more »

BOSTON, May 22, 2018—A Winthrop man who had more than $1 million in cash and bank accounts when he was arrested earlier this year faces arraignment tomorrow following his indictment for money laundering and drug trafficking, District Attorney Daniel F. Conley said.

The Suffolk County Grand Jury on April 25 returned indictments charging PETER DEGAN, 61, with two counts of trafficking in cocaine, seven counts of distribution of cocaine, and single counts of perjury and money laundering. Degan, who has been held on $3 million cash bail since his arraignment in Chelsea District Court, is scheduled to appear on those charges tomorrow in Suffolk Superior Court. more »

BOSTON, May 21, 2018— Two men were ordered held without bail at their arraignment today in the murder of 34-year-old Michael Ross, Suffolk County District Attorney Daniel F. Conley said.

DARIO BAXTER, 21, who lists addresses in Lynn and Roxbury, and DAWON WRIGHT, 22, of Dorchester were arraigned today in Roxbury Municipal Court in connection with Ross’ March 30 shooting death. Baxter is charged with murder and being an accessory after the fact to murder; Wright faces charges of murder, unlawful possession of a firearm, and unlawful possession of ammunition.

At the request of Assistant District Attorney Tara Burdman of the DA’s Homicide Unit, Judge Debra DelVecchio ordered both men held without bail and revoked Baxter’s bail in an open firearm case pending in Dorchester Municipal Court. more »

BOSTON, May 18, 2018—A longtime prosecutor who worked his way from an unpaid internship to the most senior position on Suffolk County District Attorney Daniel F. Conley’s staff was honored with a prestigious statewide award last night.

First Assistant District Attorney Patrick M. Haggan received a William C. O’Malley Prosecutor of the Year Award at the 24th annual Massachusetts Prosecutors Conference in Boston. Haggan was nominated for the honor by Conley, who called him “one of the finest, most courageous trial lawyers in the storied history of our Commonwealth.” The award is named after the longtime Plymouth County district attorney who served from 1978 until his death in 1995. more »

BOSTON, May 18, 2018—The driver who allegedly caused a devastating crash early on New Year’s Day was travelling at more than double the speed limit just prior to a collision that nearly killed the passenger of another vehicle, Suffolk County prosecutors said today.

DOMENIC COLUMBO, 39, who is a Boston Police officer, was arraigned in Suffolk Superior Court today on indictments charging him with two counts assault and battery with a dangerous weapon and single counts of operating under the influence causing serious injury. BOSTON, May 17, 2018—A 16-year-old juvenile has been charged with shooting another young man in the chest during a rush hour confrontation near Downtown Crossing earlier this month, Suffolk County District Attorney Daniel F. Conley and Boston Police Commissioner William B. Evans said.

The juvenile was apprehended yesterday at the Boston Juvenile Court, where he was scheduled to appear on an unrelated case for which he was being prosecuted. He was arraigned on one count of delinquency, to wit: assault with intent to murder for the May 2 shooting and held on $250,000 cash bail. more »

BOSTON, May 17, 2018—The Massachusetts Appeals Court today affirmed a West Roxbury driver’s conviction for causing a 2013 collision that left one of his passengers in a wheelchair and the driver of a second vehicle with catastrophic injuries that left him unable to walk, talk, or even feed himself until his death last year, Suffolk County District Attorney Daniel F. Conley said.

A Brighton Municipal Court jury convicted NIKOLAS PAPADOPOULOS, 23, of negligent operation of a motor vehicle following a three-day trial in 2015. Papadopoulos was behind the wheel of a 2003 Mazda Tribute and travelling westbound on the Arborway at about 2:00 pm on Sept. 16, 2013. The evidence showed that he was driving well over the 30 mph speed limit when he passed another vehicle on the right, crossed the center line in the area of Saint Joseph Street, struck a concrete barrier, and rolled over, crashing into a 2004 Ford F-150 pickup truck. more »

BOSTON, May 16, 2018— A Swampscott man was arraigned today on charges he sexually assaulted two women at gunpoint last year, Suffolk County District Attorney Daniel F. Conley said.

JOSEPH LOSANO, 51, of Swampscott was arraigned today in Roxbury Municipal Court on four counts of aggravated rape in connection with the two separate attacks. Bail was set in the amount of $50,000 and Losano was ordered to wear a GPS monitor, stay out of the city of Boston, and stay away from the victims in the event he is released on bail. more »

BOSTON, May 14, 2018— A man currently serving an unrelated prison sentence has been indicted on charges he critically injured a man by beating him with a rock at a homeless encampment last year, Suffolk County District Attorney Daniel F. Conley said today.

JACQUES MERVEILLE, 32, has been indicted by a Suffolk County grand jury on charges of assault and battery causing serious bodily injury and armed robbery in connection with the 2017 assault outside Copley Square. He is currently incarcerated at MCI-Cedar Junction on an unrelated conviction. more »

BOSTON, May 14, 2018— The Dorchester man charged in the shooting deaths of 23-year-old Christopher Joyce and 58-year-old Clayborn Blair was ordered held without bail at his arraignment today, Suffolk County District Attorney Daniel F. Conley said.

BOSTON, May 11, 2018—A former cook faces arraignment Monday after a grand jury indicted him for setting the blaze that destroyed Flames Restaurant, Suffolk County District Attorney Daniel F. Conley said.

BYRON HEWITT, 45, faces arraignment in Suffolk Superior Court on Monday on a charge of arson in the December blaze that partially burned down the Mattapan restaurant, which remains closed as a result of the fire. more »

BOSTON, May 10, 2018—A Boston man was ordered held without bail at his arraignment today in the South End stabbing that claimed the life of 50-year-old Edward Sanchez on Tuesday, Suffolk County District Attorney Daniel F. Conley said.

JEREMY CORREA, 31, was arraigned today in Roxbury Municipal Court on a charge of murder. At the request of Assistant District Attorney Tara Burdman of the DA’s Homicide Unit, Judge David Weingarten ordered Correa held without bail. He was additionally held on a probation violation stemming from an earlier unrelated conviction. more »

BOSTON, May 9, 2018—A man who raped and trafficked a teenaged relative was sentenced to life in prison today following his conviction for what Suffolk County District Attorney Daniel F. Conley called “one of the most disturbing cases I’ve encountered in my career as a prosecutor.”

A Suffolk Superior Court jury on Monday convicted DELACY MORRIS, 46, of one count of trafficking a person under 18 for sexual servitude and three counts each of rape, incest, and indecent assault and battery. Today, Suffolk Superior Court Christopher Muse found that Morris qualified for sentencing enhancements as a repeat offender given his conviction for a 2000 aggravated rape. Morris was sentenced to 15 years in prison on that conviction. more »

BOSTON, May 7, 2018—A Brighton man was held without bail at his arraignment on a murder charge stemming from the fatal shooting of 34-year-old Dwayne Thomas, Suffolk County District Attorney Daniel F. Conley said.

DERRELL RUSSELL, 29, was charged with the shooting that claimed Thomas’ life on Hartford Street in Dorchester late last month. He was arrested late Friday by Boston Police on a warrant issued earlier that day. more »

BOSTON, May 7, 2018—Suffolk County District Attorney Daniel F. Conley today released his entire investigative file on the 2016 gunfight in East Boston that left two Boston Police officers critically injured and the man who shot them fatally injured.

Conley determined that Boston Police Officers Matthew Morris and Eric Schmidt acted in lawful self-defense, defense of each other, and defense of Officer Richard Cintolo when they discharged their weapons at KIRK PATRICK FIGUEROA, 33, on the night of Oct. 12, 2016. Under a voluntary policy of transparency in such investigations, Conley released the evidence on which his decision was based – more than 500 pages of interview transcripts, almost 800 pages of written reports and forensic testing results, over 1800 photographs, and more than three hours of dispatch recordings – to the news media.
